FABULOUS WIN !!!!!! The Hornets shot the ball just effective enough to win. 42%overall but 43%from beyond the arc. They actually won this game on the boards and at the line. I never thought they would out rebound this team. Sounds like your gettin on board SD. The train hasnt left the depot yet. This could be the ride of your life.
Hey I'm staying grounded on this one. The Hornets finished 9-21 (3-13 BSC, good for last place) the same season we beat OSU. This win is just a step in the right direction as far as I am concerned. I will still thoroughly enjoy it though. :thumb:

For those numbers folks, here is the HornetHome.com site that provides various statistical breakdowns of the game: http://hornethome.com/sacramento-state-basketball/game-recap/sacramento-state-slips-by-utah-74-71

Sac Bee had nothing on this game. Looks like they are focused on the Causeway.

Thinking back on the game, I think the unsung hero in all of this was Eberhard. He has some huge 3's that allowed the Hornets to close the gap and keep it close. He was huge on the glass and then knocked down those clutch FT's to extend the lead to 3 with 12 seconds to go.

That's the last time Utah will schedule Sacramento State

Great job Sac, way to take it to the Utes

Last night, my daughter and I had an amazing time watching the Sac State vs. Utah game at a local sports bar. My daughter and I thought we were the only ones but in the last 5 mintues we heard about 10 people cheering, we looked over to see they were Sac State fans as well. It's nice to see the all Sac State fans at the sports bar and hopefully there are more to come; oh and for all of you fans that haven't come out of the closet don't worry it's okay. Go Sac State!

Last year Utah went 6-25 and was one of the worst teams in college basketball not just amongst the BCS power conference, but all 345 D1 college basketball teams. They were the worst team of the power conferences and things can only get better right? Well they have 8 newcomers this year so who knows. This is all part of a coaching change and the process of rebuilding a program. 15 players have left since Krystowiak took over and last year their best player, who was a senior, was kicked off the team in January. This was Krystowiak’s first real full recruiting class and he managed to bring in some talent as he landed the #1 player in the state of Utah and so far their leading scorer in the first game of the season.

There are a few familiar faces is this game as Glen Dean is the former starting point guard of Eastern Washington who decided to transfer when Jim Hayford was hired as the new coach. Dean was out last season as he ruptured a blood vessel while lifting weights, but has made a full recovery. Also Krystowiak is the former coach of the Montana Grizzlies. Last seen in 2006 when he guided Montana to a win the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Utah plays by far the easiest non conference schedule in the Pac 12 this season and Krystkowiak has basically admitted that the reason he has done this is because his players were mentally broken after enduring a tougher non-conference schedule. He also has refused to play in state rivals as is customary between all of the other Utah schools. “When you do a home and home with somebody you’d want to have a better chance to win on the road than going to Logan.” This year Utah has the easiest non conference schedule out of the Pac 12. It just goes to show you the state of a Pac 12 program is they are scared to play Utah St. and Weber St. who are very good teams true but if you are scared to play them that tells me how much you really believe in your players/program.

One interesting thing to watch will be whether or not Utah turns the ball over a lot they turned the ball over 39 times combined in their exhibition and first game of the season against extremely inferior competition, even though they only averaged 14 a game last year. Sac St. did a good job of forcing turnovers against Bakersfield especially in the second half when they played zone.

They get an impact transfer in point guard Jarred DuBois who is a Senior that transferred from LMU who has played in 96 games in the WCC and averaged 10.1 points last year and 13.5 as a freshmen. Dubois has an injured hip and did not play in the first game, but he is probable to go tomorrow as he has practiced all week, not sure if he is going to start or how many minutes he will play though.

Not sure how good of 3 pt shooting team Utah is this year but last year they were bad so if this trend is the same Hornets should play a fair amount of zone.

Areas of Concern: 1)Rebounding: Utah has a lot of tall bigs and has dominated the boards so far this year they had 55 rebounds in their first game I don’t care who you are playing that is a ton, 2)Altitude: Hornets like to play up tempo and are on a quick turn around after Wednesday, 3)Jordan Loveridge although just a freshmen he has played well so far and could be a tough matchup for the hornets at 6-6

Where to Watch: This game will be shown on the P12 network, however if you have Direct TV you will not be able to get this game

Prediction I expect the Hornets to take this one 72-67, this could be a lower scoring game as last year Utah was very deliberate and slow on offense. Utah is more talented this year, but they have so many new pieces and turnover it is tough to seem them playing that well this early in the season.

I predicted 72-67 Hornet win which was pretty darn close to the actual 74-71. I hope the players/fans don't get too excited about this win, yeah we beat a P12 school, but this is not a huge upset we beat a very bad basketball team on the road in front of 6,000 fans, which isn't easy though.
