Just getting home to see our Hornet women's team advance in the Big Sky tourney with a 16 point win over Montana State. Was worried about this one as the Hornets fell by 27 to MSU knocking them out of first place at the time earlier in league play . What a turn around as the Hornets (16-14) appear to be peaking and at the top of their game at the right time. Now on to Northern Colorado and a chance to capture one more win and play for the Big Sky tourney championship. And great for the team to have a day of rest before facing the Bears on Friday morning.

Go Hornets!!!!

Sac State Pride. .

Wow.

Top ranked Montana just holds on for a 2 point win over 8th seed Idaho State in the Big Sky tourney tonight on their home court.

On Friday Sac State takes on UNC and Montana takes on EWU.

Believing in our Hornets all the way.

Go SAC STATE!!!

You can do this Hornets!!!!

W: EWU rolls NAU 73-57, and UM squeaks by ISU 69-67.

(3) Northern Colorado (13-6, 19-11) vs. (2) Sacramento St. (14-5, 16-14) - Friday, March 13, 10:00 AM PST on Big Sky TV

(4) Eastern Washington (13-6, 20-10) @ (1) Montana (15-4, 22-8) - Friday, March 13, 12:30 PM PST on Big Sky TV

The Idaho Vandals take a 41 to 38 halftime lead over Eastern Washington. The game has been nip and tuck and it may come down to the last shot. Harvey, the nation's leading scorer, has 16 for the Eagles and Hill, the long range bomber for Idaho, has 15. Fun game to watch. Crowd size looks fairly decent too.

Harvey came out of the half blazing and poured in 19 points in 10 minutes to give EWU a ten point lead, but Idaho has come back now and w/under 7 to go, EWU leads 67 to 66. Harvey has 35 for Eastern.

Under 4 to go, Eastern leads by 1, 74 to 73, w/Harvey at the line. He hasn't scored now in 8 minutes. Still anyone's game. Hill has 23 for the Vandals.

89-83 Eagles lead; looks like they have it w/18s to go. Harvey and Brandon got going and they took over after trailing 73 to 70. Harvey's just 2 points off the all-time Big Sky tournament scoring record w/40.

Eastern wins it; 91 to 83; Harvey tied Anthony Johnson's, Montana, scoring record at 42 points.

Hornets up next............

M: Hornets knock off PSU 70-60 to advance to the semi-finals. We face EWU tomorrow at 4:30 PST.

NAU off to a fast start and lead Northern Colorado by 10, but the Bears have scored 6 in a row and trail only 34 to 30 at halftime. Svihovec and Michael have 8 for the Bears and Yanku 9 for NAU.
NAU looks good tho.

NAU always in the lead, but N. Colorado keeps hanging close w/under 8 to go its 50 to 46 for the Jacks.

Under 4 to go now, and NAU leads 55 to 51. N.Colo has never lead.

NAU wins it, 63 to 57 and now to the semi-final vs Montana or Weber St.

The Griz take the halftime lead over Weber St., 35 to 27 as Breunig leads the way for Montana w/10. Bolomboy has 10 for the Wildcats; Senglin is playing and has 5. Weber is committing a lot of turnovers tho and that will come back to haunt them if they don't clean it up. Both coaches have been warned by the refs.

Weber has come out fired up and cut the Montana lead to just one, 41 to 40 w/under 16 to go.

The Griz are in a real battle for their playoff life as Weber is hanging tough w/under 12 to go, 46-44 Griz.

Weber's taken the lead, 51 to 50 w/under 8 to go. Senglin drilled a 3 and has 11. Lot of fouls tho on Weber and both teams in the bonus already. Montana crowd getting nervous.

63 all w/2:19 to go. Senglin just scored again and has 18 for Weber. Weber has 3 players w/4 fouls and the Griz have two starters w/four. It's going down to the wire - anyone's game.

Griz take the lead back, 65 to 64, w/58s to go, but Weber's ball.

Senglin hits a three to give Weber a 67 to 65 lead w/19s to go; Griz ball. Gittens steals the ball, but misses both free throws for Weber; then a loose ball foul on Weber and Gregory hits two free throws - Overtime!

Senglin misses a three to tie and the Griz win it in O.T., 76 to 73. Breunig and Gregory saved them w/24 and 18. Senglin had 25 after missing a month w/a broken jaw.

NAU faces Montana and Sac State plays Eastern Washington Friday.

M: NAU gets by UNC 63-57.
WSU chokes at the FT line for the upset over UM at the end of regulation and lose in OT 76-73.

(3) Sacramento St. (14-5, 20-10) vs. (2) Eastern Washington (15-4, 24-9) - Friday, March 13, 4:30 PM PST on Big Sky TV

(4) Northern Arizona (14-5, 19-13) @ (1) Montana (15-4, 19-11) - Friday, March 13, 7:00 PM PST on Big Sky TV

Tough loss for Weber but there is one thing I haven't heard anyone say, that is Sac and EWU are the ONLY teams in the BSC who beat every other team in the BSC. That fact alone tells me that today's game could very well be the deciding game of the tournament. Montana didn't look very good last night. They got another Houdini play at the end of regulation to make it to overtime. The way they screwed up that final play shows they aren't as good as they think they are. NAU has an excellent chance of upsetting them tonight. We need to pressure Harvey like we did at the Nest. By the end of that game he was completely spent. Cody will draw the defensive assignment and I know he can do the job. We will need more help from our role players but I also know they are up to it. I for one can't wait for tip-off. GO HORNETS!!!!!

Feel so bad for Hilliard, the game was won... :-/
Yup. UNC had a foul to give, and there was an open player streaking up the far side of the court. That should have been the game. She just lost control of her dribble and that was it.

Great runs by both Hornet teams in the tourney. Northern Colorado has some sort of lucky angel when going up against the red hot Hornets. Tough one. And the EWU men could not miss a shot. What to do against that type of precision shooting.

Both teams finished one game out of first place in the BSC regular season and made it to the semi finals of the Big Sky tourney and came up short.

Hope to see both teams selected to play in a post season tourney.

basketball at Sac State in 2014 -2015 has been fabulous to follow and support and the school has turned the corner and become a basketball school as the programs have improved and improved over the past several years. And all despite the facility issue. That is impressive.

Go Hornet!!!!
