Real test against Peppercorn later today. A very formidable WCC team at home.

I just witnessed the best half of Hornet basketball I’ve ever seen.

The Hornets were down by 11 at the half, but stormed back to absolutely boat race Pepperdine in the second half.

So much winning!

I saw the game too, complete surprise 2nd half. Gotta give it to the guys for fighting back and winning in an away hostile environment! Quite impressed with the season so far with wins against solid BW/WCC programs. Probably the highest I've been on Hornet sports in awhile.

Next game is at 21st ranked Colorado of the PAC12 on Saturday @9PM. It'll be on the PAC12 network so tune in if you have access. A win is pretty unlikely here but if we pull this off in Boulder, time to start looking at the NCAA March Madness tickets.

jk jk...or am I?

Massey ratings say we finish 19-9 going into the postseason, pretty incredible.

I did not foresee the undersized hornets dominating the glass like this. The addition of Brandon Davis and some offense from Esposito really has given this team a whole new identity. Very fun to watch so far.

Hornets lose to 21st ranked Colorado, 59-45. It was a 5 point game with 4 minutes to go. Hornets ran out of fouls and just couldn't get some buckets to drop. Gritty performance on the road against a top ranked team. Katz went with Monteiro over Cooke-Harper when Patton was out with foul trouble.

It looks like Brian Katz is part of the College Insider Mid-Major Top25 voting panel. I don't know if you can vote for your own program but the Hornets were "receiving votes" in the Mid-Major Top25 as of November 25th. Wish the boys could have kept the game a little closer against Colorado, maybe that would have gotten a few more votes.

Hornets (5-1) cruise to a 72-36 win over NAIA UC Merced (6-3) in the Nest. Great team effort against a lesser team with another solid performance on the defensive end. Hornets went 6/13 from the arc. Katz emptied the bench with about 8 minutes to go and everyone on the roster saw the floor. Fowler (13 pts) and Osi (12 pts) led the team in scoring.

Hornets are at Fullerton (3-5) this Saturday.

Go Hornet basketball.
Have only watched the Colorado game so far this year on the PAC 12 network
Amazing defense.

Keep shooting from distance and work the ball inside for lay ups or fouls and we are in good shape .

But 5-1 so far.

Another huge win at home over UC Merce. Keep the home court undefeated.

Good luck over CSU Fullerton up next. Beat the fellow CSU down south and get a 3rd win over the Big West. Already two wins over the UC schools in the Big West.

Keep shooting from distance as more shots will fall and work the ball to the basket for lay ups or fouls.

Like the video and photos for basketball on Hornetsports.com. Would like to see that for all sports .

All being said, we have a very good men's basketball team year I do think.

This team looks ready to take anyone on.

Go Hornets

Stingers Up!!

Nice win over CSU Fullerton tonight by 3 points.

Off to a 6-1 start this season. . 3-0 against the Big West.

Keep winning Hornet men's basketball .

And the Hornet women continue to be in all their games right until the end and come up just short.

Go Sac State basketball.

and

Stingers Up

And let's get the Event Center built.

62-59 Hornet (6-1) win over CSU Fullerton (3-7) last night on the road. Neither team led by more than 6 points. Hornets were clutch at the FT line (23/31 for the night). Esposito led the Hornets with 16 points (8/10 FT) and 9 boards. Looks like Patton was in foul trouble and only logged 15 minutes, so Cooke-Harper score 6 points in 12 minutes of play. Solid games from Davis and Fowler as well.

Hornets play at Santa Clara (9-2) on Saturday, 12/14.

This upcoming game at Santa Clara (Katz first coach gig as a Grad Assistant so that's a fun lil tid-bit) will give us fans a REALLY good insight on how good this years Hornets team is. SCU, sitting at 9-2, is considered one of the best Mid-Major team so far with their hot start of beating PAC12 Cal and Stanford

These Hornets sure don't shoot many 3's do they? Crazy considering the current landscape of basketball at all levels.

Sure hope they can keep winning like this.

I think this game will really tell us if the Hornets are for real. I'm not trying to downplay the Hornets performance this season, but the Hornets SOS is ranked 157 out of 353.

Hornets (6-2) lose a close one at Santa Clara (10-2), 60-58. Hornets fell behind early but had a tremendous close to the 1st half and led 36-31. Then the Hornets no-showed on the offensive side of the court in the 2nd half and let SC control for almost the rest of the game. Fortunately their defense kept them in it and the Hornets clawed back into it in the waning minutes. It was tied in the closing seconds and SC got a bucket, Davis drove for one last attempt but his shot didn't fall (he had McCullough for a potential game winning 3 wide open on the wing who was 2/2 from 3 on the game). Le'afa didn't play, which might have been the difference.

Hornets just had too many turnovers and missed shots (from the floor and at the stripe). Esposito (1/11, 0/2 FT) kept putting up awful shots as well that really hurt the Hornets. Davis (14 pts, 3 assists, 4 boards) led the Hornets in scoring, 3 others (Jacobs was huge off the bench) had 10 points.

Hornets have a terrible Cal Poly (2-7, 2-8 when they lose to Fresneck later tonight) team in the Nest this Wednesday. Then it's off to conference play.

Agreed.
The bigs were absolutely terrible. Esposito forced a bunch of shots that wouldn’t have gotten a rec league player benched.
Patton Defense was timid because of early foul trouble. Just let the other team’s big walked in the lane at the end and got call for a blocking foul on a flop trying to draw a charge at the end
Davis was just terrible. Turnover after turnovers
Lastly, this is the most lopsided game when it comes to officiating for the Hornets in a longgg time. Not only did every call went SCU way. But there were a lot of “phantom” calls against the Hornets.

With ALL of that, the Hornets lost my two on a last second layup. So that’s a huge improvement from previous years. Next stop is Cal Poly. Let’s not let this be a trap game, finish the non conference play strong before Big Sky play starts!

The team deserved to win this game. They played tough.

Davis was not terrible. He carried the team. Without him, the game would’ve not been as close. He needed help.

It really hurt us when Patton was fouled out. Esposito needed to have a better game too. Took too many bad shots.

Team will be more than ready for conference play. Go Hornets!!

Bummer today and great effort by the Hornets at Santa Clara going down by 2 points.

Beat Cow Piley next Wednesday to wrap up a great pre conference schedule.

Go Sac State

and

Stingers Up.

Agree with SSF about Davis. He kept us in this one and he and Izayah are the best ball handlers on the roster. Patton fouled out in the minute of the game, he would have made that last SC possession much tougher had he been on the floor.

I thought I might have been overly critical of Davis on the SCU game, but I looked back at the box score and it kinda confirmed my statement about the TOs and decision making.
As a point guard, you simple can't have a NEGATIVE Turnover-Assist ratio. You simply can't.
-0.6 for the SCU game with 5 TOs to only 3 Assists.

Now, to give Davis some due. He has stabilized the PG position after the departure of 5(4) year starter Marcus Graves. Not an easy thing to do. But at the same time, he's absolutely got to get better in controlling the game in the TO department

I have no idea why Bridges is playing so much. A huge liability on Defense with absolutely no lateral movement at all. Besides the 3s he made, has not contributed much.
