Marching Band

Thats awesome, anything is better than no band music. I think getting the local High school music community involved can help in the development of a PSU marching band. Brass and Drums have definately been missing in PGE over the years.

Jerry and Mouse on the sidelines, a crisp fall day with live music, a few beers in the belly, watching the Viks taking care of business; sounds like paradise to me. This school needs to have it's own marching band, but in the meantime, any band will do. I totally enjoyed it when Grambling and NC A&T came in town with their bands.

The music department needs to step it up and get with the program. As far as im concernced they should be able to have a band in some form by next season.

Do any of you know how most schools pay for bands and the scholarships that go with them. Is it usually funded by the athletic department?

I've been whining about a band, marching or not, for several years now. Next time I see the AD, I'm going to bring the subject up. I don't live too far from a hs and when I hear the band practicing, I get pumped up. WE NEED A SCHOOL BAND!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, this needs to become a funding priority. The band doesn't even have to be that good or that big to have a big impact on the game atmosphere.

Just inquiring, but if PSU had a marching band, where would they practice? I grew up in the Portland area, and there isn't a whole lot of room in the city.

Could they just schedule time in ole' Civic? Or maybe on the Viking practice field.

That begs the question too, what are the facilities in the city for PSU teams? How extensive are they? I remember when I was in high school when the Viks had to cut the football team for budget reasons, but maybe it was facility related as well? A fellow Lakeridge Pacer of mine, center - Ian Falconer, had some bumps in his career at PSU because of that.
Ian Falconer now...

Just got back from my brothers high school game in Washington and let me tell you the band they had there was awesome. The other team got a big sack late in the game and played another one bites the dust and I talked to him after the game and he said it royally pissed him off. PSU needs a band.

I used to enjoy this little PSU student band that would play at football games but haven't seen them the last couple of years.
I ran into a friend who used to play in the band at PSU Football and Basketball games. He said it was a kick. I don't think he gives a rip about football. He said by being in the student band he got a scholarship from the music department at PSU.
Ok I asked him where's the band. What happened?
He said the band dropped the football games and just do basketball games now. He said this is totally based on the fact that football games including setup run around 4 hours and b-ball is only a 2 hour gig.
This is all old history the new stuff starts tomorrow.
Go Viks!

Maybe you mean the basketball program. The football program was never cut. The basketball program was cut from 1980 to 1996.
