Portland State basketball has added another player to the program with signing of Marcus Hall, a 6-4 wing from Fresno City College, to a national letter intent.

Hall comes off a stellar season in which he was named the Northern California Player of the Year, the co-MVP of the Central Valley Conference and the CVC Defensive Player of the Year. Hall led Fresno CC to a 33-3 record and the California Community College Athletic Association State Championship.

Portland State Coach Tyler Geving has added his third signee for 2012-13 to go with 10 returning letterwinners and one redshirt. He feels Hall is the one piece needed in terms of versatility, scoring, shooting and defending.

"Marcus is obviously a good defender, rebounder and athlete and he can really knock down open shots," Geving said. "Marcus does a little bit of everything. But most of all, he has winning qualities, and he proved that by winning Most Valuable Player honors and leading his team to the California Juco championship."

"Coach (Andy) McClouskey did a good job building a relationship with Marcus in the recruiting process. That really paid off for us and Marcus."

Hall averaged 12.9 points and 4.1 rebounds as a sophomore at Fresno. He shot .518 from the field, .452 from three-point range and .665 at the line.

Portland State lost three starters from its 2011-12 team that finished 17-15 overall, 10-6 in the Big Sky Conference. However, 10 letterwinners and one redshirt return for 2012-13. JR C Lamont Prosser (6-8, Sheridan JC) has already signed with the Vikings for 2012-13. The Vikings have also added transfer Tim Douglas from the University of Portland (eligible in 2013-14).

PORTLAND STATE BASKETBALL SIGNEES FOR 2012-13
Lamont Prosser, JR, C, 6-8, 255, Fort Wayne, IN (Charis Prep/Sheridan JC) - signed in Novmeber
Marcus Hall, JR, G, 6-4, 210, Bakersfield, CA (Bakersfield Christian/Fresno CC) - signed on April 23
Tim Douglas, JR, G, 5-10, 160, Cerritos, CA (Mayfair/Portland) - eligible in 2013-14

Geving & Company are good recruiters. We always have needed much taller forwards, though. Can they come through? More luxurious height? Height alone can be a huge advantage. More three-point specialists combination players? Everyone a three-threat.

They need to keep on Bone-ing-up on their game planning and coaching. They need to feel like the pupil can, yes, even outdo the master.

Great news.

What's his nickname?

No one gets back in without a nickname.

... Forum? Marcus "Forum" Hall? What's his?

I always just called him Marcus to be honest. :|

Some nicknames seem to just come natural at the games over the years (JD, Big Cat, Dre, etc), but just "Marcus" always seemed to be what comes to mind when he forces a turnover or knocks down another three ball.
