MARKETING DEPARTMENT

So, I have heard that WSU actually does have a department set up to do the marketing and promotions for WSU athletics. Does this department really exist? I have heard that big foot, and the easter bunny are real also, but I haven't seen them, just like our marketing department. If the marketing department does exist, when will they start doing their FREAKIN' JOBS? This marketing department has been totally non existing since Chad Gerritty left. I have invited several friends and neighbors to the home coming game, and every time their reply is "I didn't know WSU had a game this Saturday." I AM TIRED OF HEARING THIS EVERY WEEK FROM PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY

I agree completely, I haven't seen hardly anything about the game or anything Weber State for that matter. Something needs to change I'm just hoping that The Standard has something other than a small add in the back of the sports section telling people about the game. Other than that I think its just on fans to bring people.

Maybe we should start a petition to give Kim the boot! He is the head of the Marketing dept and he hasn't done anything. It's like Chad quit and they didn't replace him!

Chad did a great job with a VERY limited budget, Kim on the other hand has done nothing as far as marketing to the public. He has focused only on corporate accounts which is important, but you must have both the corporate and the public. They work hand in hand, and you cant just ignore either side. It's time we get someone who loves WSU sports and not just the paycheck that comes with the job.

So what exactly has, or is our marketing dept. doing to build on the success of last years basketball season. I havn't seen them do anything. The season starts in less than a month, what are they waiting for? Kim Turner GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND START DOING YOUR JOB FOR ONCE!!!

Well I had yet another member of the Ogden community ask me what exactly is the marketing dept. doing to promote and build on the success of last years basketball season. And I regret to say that my answer was the same as it has been for the last 3 years. APPARENTLY NOTHING!! WSU Basketball should be a VERY easy sell this year, but yet we see NO advertising and NO marketing. Our coaches shouldn't have to coach and do ALL of the marketing. Why can't this area improve for us?

The Weber State Athletics marketing always reminds me of a scene from the movie "Major League" when the lady says, "Gee, I didn't know Cleveland still had a team." and Tom Berenger's character replies." Ya, we got uniforms and everything. It's really great." :-/

Thats a great show!!! Love it!! Lets get together and either get a petition to get Kim fired or scare him enough that he will actually, remarkably, DO HIS JOB. Weber is having some definite problems right now with its professional staff. Hey have any of you seen the bus with the painted Weber! fans around town... It's tight! The picture is from last season's Big Sky tourny game where a bunch of crazies were painted and wearing grass skirts. The Ad; however, was not put out by the Athletic dept. but by Student Recruitment. Pathetic, at least there is a department somewhere on campus trying to sell the university. Good Job Andy!!

I don't know how i feel about trying to get somebody fired, but i'd sing a petition stating i'm not satisified with their efforts.

Maybe it's just me, but I haven't seen programs available at the football games this year. Have they been dropped? Programs are a good way for business supporters to advertise and give the fans some good information and fun promotions.

They have had programs for sale, but it seems like they don't do much to sell them. I know at the basketball game last night the cheerleaders were going up and down the isles selling programs and taking donations for nationals.

At the football games, they usually have the track teams or the volleyball team selling programs. On saturday, because of other sporting events, there weren't any student athletes available to sell them.

I just gotta say somebody is doing something to at least promote wsu bball. I don't know if it's the marketing department or not though. A girl i work with told me that the day before the usu game, coach R. was at her daughter's elementary school and gave out tickets to the game. the t-shirts and pins and cookies were good ideas too.
But still i'd like to see more.

Big huge props to the purple pak for advertising the wsu game against the aggie mutes. Interesting to see that its the students NOT getting paid to promote weber state... so where's that petition to cattle prod the kim guy?

anybody know of plans for the m'Ute game as far as advertising? I really think that we should use this game as an test/ultimatum for the _______ officially in charge of promoting our school. When the advertising peeps are lazy, it makes our school look lazy, and when people other than us make our own school look lazy, thats just plain insulting.

FYI the lower bowl of the DEC is sold out for tonights game that is going to be televised on Channel 14. So, they have sold at least 5,000 ticks for the game. It should be the students responsibility to get other students to the game. I will be able to comment more on marketing projects in a week. I should be getting a list of promotions and projects currently being worked on.

That's great news. This game is gonna be off the hook. If we can get 8,000 to a Wed night game, then somebody is doing something right. We'll see if they can do it tonight at 7. Go wildcats!

Within a span of 10mins I heard a U of U Mens basketball commercial on three different stations. It made me think, "Why can't Weber be more proactive and get some commercials out on the air?" Heck we have a problem getting commercials on 88.1, and thats our University station. I know we have a small budget, but come on, isn't there any innovation in our marketing dept.?

For all of you that were wondering if the Mens Bball schedule posters were available - - they finally are. You can get them at the Athletic Dept offices. Call Ben Huppi, and get on his case for not having them sooner. Seriously though, get the posters and help post them around town. I have one posted at my place of business, and have given out about 15 of them.
