Hey all, I'm a Marquette fan and come in peace. Looking forward to our tilt on Saturday and was wondering if someone could provide a bit of a preview of your team this year either on this site or at marquettehoops.com (Scout site).

We're obviously having a successful season at 9-0 with big wins at Wisconsin and against Washington. It's been a rough go lately with injuries to our starting center, Chris Otule (ACL injury, out indefinitely), freshman Juan Anderson (out 2-3 more weeks with a shoulder injury) and sophomore, Jamil Wilson (should be back on Saturday).

Our best players are certainly our seniors: guard Darius Johnson-Odom and forward Jae Crowder, but we have been getting some great contributions from soph guard Vander Blue and fresh guard Todd Mayo. Davante Gardner, our backup center, is a scorer supreme, and his role increased after losing Otule. Junior Cadougan is our starting PG, and while a bit of a defensive liability, he makes our engine go, distributing on offense.

We look forward to welcoming Logan Bean back to the BC, and for another local tie, your head coach is the son of the provost at UW-Whitewater, which is in the area.

Best wishes and safe travels to anyone coming out to Milwaukee. If you haven't been here, MKE is a great city and there's lots of great restaurants and bars around the Bradley Center.

Thanks for posting! I'm just hoping we keep in close. We're sort of in a rebuilding situation with a lot of young players. Hopefully we come out swinging and make it respectable.

We have 2 non-injured upperclassmen on our roster and they aren't very good. That probably tells you all you need to know lol

If we can even keep the game semi-competitive I'll be happy.

We have a couple of really good shooters but no real leadership on the team. Picture our attitude and toughness as the complete opposite of Cinci or Xavier.

how on earth would the bears keep it close against one of the best teams in the country after losing @ home to Salt Lake's very own Westminster College by double digits?

With 2 of our starters out I expect Weber will lose by 20 plus @ Cal tonight. Marquette should win by 40.

We had no chance in this game but nice to see the lowlights on ESPN but 3-11 is pathetic, I question the scheduling. We still suck though.

Who is 3-11? I hope u will admit your lack of basketball insight when this team starts winning in the conferencendue to this tough schedule.

Oh we're 3-7 I stand corrected! OK I'll wait until 12/31 and I'll respost the 3-11 message! Actually I won't I'll be on vacation while this juggernaut of lackadaisical play rolls on!

The losses are frustrating but you have to remember that the Bears are playing a very tough non-conference schedule and have 7-8 freshmen and sophomores in the rotation. The talent is there, but naturally there are going to be some growing pains and the tough schedule we've been playing will help once we get into conference play.

Agreed, this is all preseason to me. I am concerned that there doesn't seem to be a leader on the team. Nobody to pump the others up, especially on defense.

Perspective:
Last year, heading into Christmas, the team was 4-7. With an easier schedule, per KenPom.

New Mexico St. 6-4
Wyoming 11-1
Northern Iowa 9-1
Iowa St. 8-3
Western Carolina 5-6
Southern 3-8
Westminster 11-3
Johnson & Wales 3-13
Denver 8-2
Marquette 10-0

Combined Record of UNC's opponents is 74- 41. Take out the non D1 teams and the record is 60-25 for a 71% winning percentage. The Bears are going to be alright...

Depending on the source, UNC's strength of schedule is rated 9th or 11th-hardest in D1, as updated yesterday.

CSU's RPI is one of 4 opponents in the Top 50, per RealTimeRPI.com.
Northern Iowa #3,
Marquette #9
DU #23
CSU #38
Iowa State #60
New Mexico State #70
Wyoming #84
Weber St. #106
UNC #117

KenPom ratings:
Marquette #13
Northern Iowa #38
Denver #72
Iowa State #79
New Mexico State #80
Wyoming #105
Colorado St. #129
Montana #141
Weber St. #153
UNC #164

Yea, its been a real tough schedule for our young team. We have had some blunders and some bright spots. Really hope this team comes together for the CSU game and sends them back to FC beat. Since school is out , I hope a lot of people show up. Go Bears !!
