Marty English

To all boosters who carry weight please help. UNC is a D1 school and should start acting like one. We do not need a D2 coach. To elevate this program to where it needs to be a dynamic coach is needed and Marty English (CSU) is the guy. I have been told he has turned it down in the past but boosters and administration should do what it takes to get this guy in Greeley!!

I am new to this board and a new fan so I have a outside perspective. This is not rocket science people. Cough up the money and get him now!!

thanks

I know Marty and he is a stand up guy in every way and one hell of a coach and person! He is on the defensive side of the ball but he is a winner and knows a lot of people. I for one would love to have him here if we could afford him ? I would imagine he is probably pretty happy over at CSU though.

That would be a hire I would fully support. I'm guessing its a long shot to get him here though. Anyone know what his salary at CSU is? I think we will probably be looking at more up and coming d2 coaches. I don't think that is a bad thing though. We need someone who is hungry and wants to keep moving up the ranks. Lets face it UNC is and never will be a destination program.

I highly doubt this happens, as he will most likely follow McElwain to Florida or wherever he goes. (Florida is supposedly going after him). I see a D2 coach coming in and it being another bad situation, trying to get his players into the program and a complete restart. I think we need an established D1 coach who will come in and adapt to the talent of the team. Not the opposite.

Thats the biggest issue with the coaches right now, they are't adapting to the talent and players. they are forcing their style upon a team that isn't that style.

Its like the Denver Nuggets, George Karl having a full court, push the ball fast break scheme, to the new coach who tried to change that and obviously it didnt work. A good coach will do everything he can to adapt to what is best for the team.

I also dont believe collins will be leaving, Dunn is too much of a pushover to let go of him.

His salary at CSU is reportedly just of $190k. No way he would come to UNC for a salary of $120k at best.

looks like it was just wishful thinking. so sad to say. Say a prayer for all the players on the team that they have the fortitude to endure one more year of the same!

I know that this has come and past for the season; but if things don't work out down the road, Coach English would be steal. He was a great guy to play for and he may have the passion for UNC to take a pay cut to come coach the Bears. Maybe at a later time, if things don't start going the way they should at UNC, he / the admin will think this way. Another guy that has come and gone is Jed Stugart. As much as Coach English has accomplished while at CSU and UW, Coach Stugart has done the same in a different manner. Coach Stugart is at the University of Sioux Falls, a D 2 who recently moved up from NAIA. He has a great winning % something over .700 close to .800 and went 10-1 this past season. His QB this year (Luke Papilion) is a Colorado kid that won offensive player of the year. He has a lot of other accomplishments such as Coach of the year and such that I found on their website and his bio. Either way, when this conversation happens again, these two guys, plus maybe a Brian Applewhite would be three former Bears that if I was AD, I would reach out too. None may be up for the pay cut or challenge, but all would be interesting to talk to. All I want is for my Bears to be feared again on the playing field. Bear Down!

This is a very well thought out post I commend you on your taking of the high road.
