Breaking: Griz Head Coach Wayne Tinkle says Mathias Ward had surgery on foot and will be out for the season ending a great career at UM. Just FYI to end that discussion. :kisswink:

Bummer deal for Ward. However, who on this board mentioned that either Ward or Cherry suited up for the SUU game? Was it Ward?

I feel bad for Ward. I always thought he was a stand up guy and had good sportsmanship. He is already in his Masters Program at UM. Very impressive. I remember Weber State recruited him. He would have looked good in a Weber State uniform. Best of luck to Mathis. I will probably miss his beard the most. :-D

A tough ending to a great career. Matty is one great Grizzly, both on the floor and in the classroom. Any guy that is that tough on the floor and that dedicated in the classroom (he'll leave UM with 2 undergraduate degrees and 2 masters degrees) has my ulitimate respect.

Thanks for the kind words, Weber fans!

I believe you are talking about my post where I stated that Ward lightly participated in shoot around and walk through at NAU. At no point did I say that he dressed for the game.
Hate to see any players career end like this, but he used his scholarship to the fullest and will be able to get a very good paying job. He improved vastly from his freshman year to his senior year on the court.

its sad to see the seniors go after 4 yrs from any of the schools but its a shame to see any of them with injuries much like bull. both bull and ward, very good players who had things cut short.

A hard way to end the career, he was a great player, is a great person, and I wish him luck in his futre endeavours.

If Cherry is indeed healthy, I guarantee Montana will save him for the tournament, No point risking it.

Bummer deal for Ward. I hope he recovers quickly and is successful in his future endeavors. I'm thinking he will end up being just fine. He has turned out pretty good for being a Weber reject. hahaha...kidding. He chose the program that fit him best. Good luck in the future Ward.
