Not really an objective source. This guy's shtick is to bash all things Sacramento sports related. Well, he bashes everything, but since he's from Sac, it's his favorite.

That kinda sounds like that dummy Colin Cowherd...an EWU alum, yet he bashes everything FCS, especially EWU....
Yeah he's critical of our moves based on historical track record, which is valid. The issue is some of the criticism doesn't consider the facts. He had a past video critical of the stadium effort and never once mentioned the fee increase that will no doubt bolster the financial side of the issue. For those of us that follow this stuff pretty closely, the major difference with this current push and past ones is the fortitude by leadership to force through various fee increases that will likely be used to cover a significant portion of the costs.
Regarding this video, I think he misses the mark on the Bibby hire being a big risk. Dr. Wood is obviously capitalizing on a flashy name that resonates with area hoops fans to sell tickets in the new venue that is coming online in a few weeks. Our MBB program slowly declined back to garbage status after the lightning in a bottle season a decade ago, I just don't see how there is much to lose with a gimmick hire this time around. College athletics have changed tremendously due to the portal. There is less emphasis on player development and more about assembling the best talent on a year to year basis via free agency.
I also don't agree with his assessment on Dr. Woods "FBS or bust" statement and the FBS Indy vs CUSA argument. FBS Indy would allow scheduling regional foes that would sell tickets at a much greater clip than CUSA membership would. Either option would be better than staying in the FCS.
In my opinion, he was good for Pacific, they were coming off scandal, and total irrelevancy in WCC. He yo-yo’d but they were the most competitive they have been in WCC. Two bad years (1st year , expected, and 3rd) two solid years in top half (2nd and 4th) and a bit of let down in year 5, but not horrendous as that was Covid year.
Damon had real collegiate experience on the bench however. Bibby has not.

StocktonLB: You make a good point about UOP having to distance itself from scandal. That was a huge thing on the fan board for years, and it's still hovering to some degree. For many UOP fans, it felt like a carpetbagging stop, and I'm concerned that's how Hornet fans will take this. Your assessment of their relative experience is probably fairly close. I'm hoping Bibby turns out better than what would have happened in Dallas had Jerry Jones gone through with his threat to hire a guy with essentially a year or two of experience at the HS level (yes, he did win a state title in that time), simply because he's a legend in town....
I'll reiterate to the people who are upset about the hire. A long stellar NBA career has auto qualified many people for jobs in the front office, in the broadcast booth, as assistants and as head coaches.
Some fail and some succeed. Steve Nash failed. Jason Kidd keeps on going. But that doesn't mean they jumped the line. This is the way it is done. If you have an average professional bball career or an amateur career, you may have to go through a different process.

One thing I have heard is Adidas will be out... You'll notice a brand new brand logo-less background for the Bibby presser. Much different than the Adidas branded back drop for Brennan Marion.
Hopefully we go with whoever gives us the best deal on gear and whatnot for our various programs.

Word on the street is Bibby insisted on an exit from Adidas (mid deal) or he wouldn’t come be the coach. Obviously we all know Bibby’s affinity with the Jordan brand. It’s a rare case where the basketball coach is going to end up making the decision for the football program and the rest of the athletic department. Crazy stuff.
Sounds very shortsighted if true. I don't know the ins and outs of apparel deals but I would think the only outfitter better than Adidas is Nike, so anything other than that would be going backwards. Pretty risky to put that on the line for an un-proven coach.
Side note, having watched the Bibby presser it was pretty underwhelming with his pitch to fans/alums on how he is going to execute while here. He also seemed to get a little snappy when asked about who/how his staff is coming along. If funds are there to bring in some good talent then maybe the point is moot. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out, but as I said all along this hoops programs is garbage status so there isn't really anywhere to go but up.
