MBB Head Coach Hire

Agree with SLB. Not a big dollar contract compared to other coaching salaries, that said he has no D1 coaching experience so he shouldn't get top dollar until he earns it.

If you were around during the Coach T years, there is no chance you would call this a solid hire. He was a terrible coach. 13 wins 66 losses.

Noted. I did not look back at the record. Some people are better suited as assistants.

Don’t worry, Bibby will solidify the staff with Dan Muscatell because he has lunch with him once.

The only positive thing I recall from that dismal era was Anthony Flood, an absolute baller with no quit in him, no matter how bad things were. I think he ended up going to Australia to play professionally.

Didn't some poster say he wanted staff with local ties? Does Abatemarco check that box? Lol

Awful optics hire by Bibby. That said, it'll be one hell of an arc for him if this Bibby experiment works out.

I've never been a fan of Napier. While it's been a while since I heard him, it seemed that he never had anything good to day about Sac; if he had anything good to say about college sports in the area, he tended to prop up the Manure Pile. Again, it's been a while, so he might have changed....

Sacramento State will officially pay former NBA player Mike Bibby $521,004 per year, as part of a five-year contract the school and its new head men’s basketball coach finalized this week.

That figure is slightly higher than the $470,000 in annual compensation that was stipulated in the late March offer letter sent to Bibby by Sacramento State athletic director Mark Orr. A school spokesperson said the $51,000 increase owed to “negotiations after the initial offer.”

A half-a-million dollars equates to top-tier pay for a Big Sky Conference coach, but it ranks near the bottom of the compensation scale in the NCAA’s Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS)—a club Sacramento State has recently applied to join.

According to a copy of Bibby’s employment agreement, obtained by Sportico, Bibby will receive $300,000 in base salary, $200,004 in supplement compensation and talent fees, and a $21,000 yearly retention bonus. In addition, he will be able to earn up to $335,000 in performance and academic bonuses. All this is relative chump change for a man who earned more than $107 million during his 14-year NBA career.
