I heard a rumor he is having surgery on his ankle and is done until the Causeway. Can this be confirmed?

MBT has a ruptured ankle tendon. He's having surgery Monday and is out 4-6 weeks according to reports in the Sacramento Bee this morning.

dang that is tough to hear! I guess flemming will be the guy! we have to start trusting him! He definitely needs to improve and Im sure his learning curve will be drastic but i agree we need to win!!!!! anyways mbt redshirted his first year at ucla so he has already used it

MBT has already graduated. He almost left the program, but with Smith leaving because of medical, decided to stay around. I believe MBT is working on his Masters.

The way I understand the rules, MBT HAS to be working on a master's to do this.

I just hope he's abiding by the spirit of the rule, not flouting it like that punk the Cards just cut did (taking ONE ballroom dancing class with his girlfriend). This should be treated as an opportunity to benefit your long-term future, not just take advantage of a loophole for short-term gain.

As much as I dislike the Manning Brothers, PM is (or ought to be) the poster child for this rule. He EARNED his master's as he finished his eligibility. As it stands, I think the rule may be expunged over the Leinart cr@p.

The rule that allows a kid to come back after graduating before exhausting his eligibility. The whole point of that rule is to allow him to support his school and continute his development while furthering his future with a master's degree. The spirit of the rule is earning a LEGITIMATE master's, not just taking one easy unconnected class just to conform to the letter of a rule.

Essentially, what I'm saying is that I hope MBT has integrity. Matt Leinart certainly did NOT.

If he were to sit the rest of the year and continue with his Master's coursework, I'm quite sure he would be granted a medical RS, right HHD?

But why would he? He barely came back this year, pretty much a's a favor to the program.

MBT was redshirted his freshman year at UCLA, so he won't get a medical redshirt. If you use your first redshirt due to medical reasons and then get hurt early in a season a second year and a third year, then you can get another year. Graduating makes absolutely no difference. The only thing graduating does for you is that if you have a year of eligibility left and you have graduated, you can transfer to another school if you enter a graduate program that your last school didn't offer and use your last year of eligibility at that school. You can go to any school at any division and you don't have to sit out the year. Very, very rarely happens.

MBT did not graduate last year. He has had surgery to repair three torn tendons and had a screw inserted to strengthen his ankle & aide his recovery. He should start physical therapy within a week and will work toward a return for EWU. Time will tell. He was looking forward to contributing to the team's effort this season and is devastated that this injury has limited that contribution.

All Hornets wish him the best and hope to see him back as soon as possible. Injuries are devastating when you have worked so hard and have so much invested. Our thoughts and prayers are with him.

A fast and complete recovery to MBT. Met him a couple times and he's a great guy. I think we all agree MBT was our #1 option...but, do you think Jason Smith is waiting in the wings?

Here is to a speedy recovery MBT. I was definitely looking forward to see how he would do this season. I guess I will have to wait a few weeks.

According to sources Smith had shoulder surgery on his throwing arm in July. Apparently his rotator cuff had been torn since his sophomore year but he continued to play and he dislocated his shoulder tearing his labrum last year against Idaho state thus why he did not play at the end of last season.

As for MBT I anticipate him being back sooner than 4-6 weeks. Yes it is ankle surgery but with today's technology a young healthy person can recover much quicker than older people like myself. Smith underwent surgery in 2008 during the season and was told it would take 4-6 weeks to recover and he did it in 10 days. We need to have MBT back to be completive this year and I wish him a speedy and successful recovery.

Thanks HM22, I hooped with Jason recently and he looked healthy and happy, but a wee bit thick around the middle... hahaha... Kudos to him for toughing out the pain and playing so admirably while injured. That speaks a lot to his character.

Hopefully MBT's operation went well and he's rehabbing as I type and can still make an impact on this team. We need his rifle arm to hit all these talented WRs...
