Yay to no more FBS this season! Hard to predict but I did guess upfront to season it's a loss for the Wildcats. Cowboys are at home, they beat last year in Ogden by a field goal margin, sooo... Cowboys 28 - Wildcats 17. Coach Mental keeps saying he needs to coach his team into faster production at the start. Maybe better chances vs. a FCS opponent but I will believe it when it's shown in action. Time to walk the talk!

Well after two weeks let’s just cut the shall we??!!! I see us losing 38-17 at best.

In the two “money” games we were outplayed, out coached, out hustled, and anything else you can think of. Mental has ZERO clue how to be a HC at this level and it’s painfully obvious. In addition to poor coaching we clearly have lost worse in recruiting. Our secondary is piss poor, defensive front and offensive line are pathetic, our WR’s are non existent, and our RB’s and QB have not been much better. What’s sad too is the special teams used to be brilliant but now they are just as bad as the rest of this team. This team is a 2-10 at best and I for one let my tix expire last season after 20 years because it’s foolish to support this pitiful staff!!!! Our AD is a damn joke as well and should be fired immediately, but if I’m being honest they should probably just cancel the football program because in the NIL landscape we are in we’re toast. Feel free to disagree but the product and coaching speaks for itself!!!

This is the game where we get a feel for how good this team can be. If the Cats lay an egg, we are all in for a very long season. If the Cats come out and play tough, but lose a close game we might end up .500. If they win, Weber just might be better than we think.

My brother had season tickets for over 10 years and wasn’t even contacted to renew them, so he let them go. That is terrible and shows failures at AD and marketing level.

I think it will be tough to compete with Dakota and Montana schools as FCS is the top level in their states and will draw top talent, but I don’t see any reason why a talented, smart, and motivated coach couldn’t keep the Wildcats in top 25 consistently. They need a head coach who understands the state and recruiting area. I think there are some current coaches and assistant coaches in the Big Sky that could do this. (Ed Lamb could probably do well…he almost had Northern Colorado beat Colorado State last week and he got SUU a conference title). There are promising high school coaches as well.

Jay Hill took a Sears team…and even though they went 2-10, were in the games down to the end despite his recruits weren’t in place. Shows what coaching can do as games were over 20 minutes in under Sears with basically same team. The teams under Mental are looking more confused and lost with each passing year. A legitimate coaching search should have been done…instead a limited pool were interviewed before handing it to Mental. If University and AD cared about athletics, Mental would have been fired last year.

Oh well…next two games should be telling. I just won’t be surprised if Mental stays on for last year even if the Wildcats go 2-10 or 3-9.

I would say that the next three games fall into that category. The two teams we lost to, we absolutely should have lost to. The next three games will tell the story better.

I think that all of our coaches know that their jobs are on the line. They want to win and the players want to win. I don't know if they can do it, but there are no secrets right now. Play exciting/winning ball or go home with your tail between your legs. The buck stops at the top, but there are many more people impacted by one or two people's actions.

I really hope Coach Crompton has a list of potential coaches. No matter the year, he always should have a plan in place. He's done a good job replacing the soccer coach. Really like the direction that program is headed and held onto our incredible Volleyball coach. If he has to, I hope he finds a good replacement for Mickey. Definitely don't want to see it end that way. Hope Mickey leaves on his own terms, but after the last decade, I don't want to go back. Loved what Jay did for the program and the school. Weber needs to build off of his success and legacy.

I’m at least hoping the Wildcats go back to wearing purple. They seem to only wear black and white combos now…no wonder the Wildcats played awful…they looked awful.

Hell, I’d almost take the awful garb they wore under Graybeal with the W shield logo on the white helmet with the Ravens style purple jersey with plain white pants at home or white jersey with plain purple pants on the road.

If I had my way, they’d go back to the Go W as the primary logo (purple helmet) with the current Wildcats logo as a secondary logo.

I know it’s minor stuff to complain about…but nothing exciting on the field to discuss. Hoping I’m wrong and the Wildcats string some wins together. I’ll gladly down a bowl of shut the hell up soup if it means a good Wildcats Football team.

Coach Mental must not like purple, there was a mention when selected that a friend teased him about the school's color purple being the archrival's when at Notre Dame College. Haven't seen coach dress with much other than black with Wildcat symbols. My opinion, school colors S/B priority in sports team wear.

As mentioned before in trying to fill behind Coach Hill, there's not any interest likely from former assistants now at the FBS level making at least twice the salary of what Weber can offer. Shouldn't be wasting time & effort on pursuing those you can't attract! A source said that at the time a coach with college, NFL, etc. involvement (not saying details) applied & wasn't even interviewed. No judgement on few details, but it can make one wonder if there's some misdirection going on?

While WSU can afford a buyout for the final yr. of Mental's contract, it's a very bitter pill to swallow on it's budget no doubt. Hope it doesn't come to that & doubt it will happen. If it does, then Weber State needs to move in the future of limiting buy outs & keeping the length to 2-3 yrs.? Like HC Duft's new contract. Yes, it may hurt competing to get good prospects for coach openings but recent history shows the level of interest from outside is not great. Emphasis should be on local recruiting ties & some indication of successful background at whatever level. FWIW

We could go through 10 more coaches and not find another Jay Hill. Coaches like Jay do not grow on trees. That is why I always say, 'Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it'. You just have to look at what has been going on at ISU for the past 20 years.

That is a valid point. On the flip side, can you imagine if Weber State stayed with Sears 4 years…would have probably missed out on Hill. I like Idaho State’s coach and staff compared to ours right now. I’d switch in a heartbeat. I think the Bengals will be winning the Train Bell Trophy again. I think that staff could do wonders more at Weber State. They have me really confused because they played UNLV tight but lost to SUU…but SUU is tough in Cedar City and trending up. I am only thinking Wildcats may be favored in 3 games this year: Butler, Portland State, and possibly Sac State (only because it’s in Ogden).
