Media Day Thread

Media Day is coming up and big news as Coach is bringing with him two returners who are likely captains.

Anybody want to read into why he is bringing experienced Hornet trench guys versus his big flashy skill guys? Seems the opposite of what one would expect.
I would guess it’s to not pick favorites of the newbies that haven’t done anything for him/the team yet?

I’m glad he’s recognizing two studs from the trenches. Meek was pretty much Marion’s first signing when he got him to pull out of the portal. Williams has always flashed major talent, but has been injured so often. He’s been a loyal Hornet, like his brother, and I expect great things if he can stay healthy!

Jamar Curtis is Preseason 2nd Team All-American from Stats Perform. I think our RB room and the offense will wind up being too good for one RB to earn such an honor. He’s our best guy. But I think we are more likely to run 4 guys 10 times each than one guy 20 times and 3 guys 6.

I really enjoyed watching Curtis in the spring game. Dude is a complete jackrabbit, X factor. And with our depth at RB, hopefully we can keep him and everyone fresh, and defenses on their toes. Also, Curtis gave up his #5 as a 5th year dude to Jaden Rashada, a Soph. Every interview I see with him, just seems like a good dude. Undersized, but definitely will have a chance to get NFL eyeballs on him.

I think it's a good reminder for Sac State fans that the "Go-Go" offense is 65% run, 35% pass by design. And the Rebels hit this almost on the head last year.

309 pass attempts
623 rush attempts
42 sacks

351 pass plays - 37% (minimum, obviously some pass plays become run plays)
581 run plays - 63% (maximum)

Last year we were opposite of that 60% pass 40% run. The most we ran under Taylor was 55% in 2022.

Interesting topic of discussion. It's also important to note that last year would have seen a lot more run plays if our running QB wouldn't have quit after week 2. Combine that with chasing points week in and week out and you get the lop sided play calling percentage.

Here's how recent Hornet season's play calling stacks up against Coach Marion's offenses:

Probably want to factor Sacks into these -- as sacks go down as run attempts.

But this goes to show that this is a run run run -- and then throw the big shot sort of offense.
