mens and womens hoops start-up

Bringing my niece to see women's hoops game vs. ASU in Tempe and working (fruitlessly so far) on acquiring men's hoops tics down in Tucson in December.

Only five months away from the happiest time of the year - March Madness. Hooray for college hoops.

Call me nuts but I'm kinda looking forward to seeing a Big Sky Conference game in Rolle Activity Center instead of the Skydome. Something different. A bit cramped, I'm betting, but maybe it can be used to advantage and somehow make the crowd more into the game. I realize it's a stretch but it's a hopeful one.

I can't wait!!! I'm interested to see how the Rolle activity center will look with about 2,000 fans or so. Will they be adding more seating? I can't imagine going with what they have for volleyball. You're right, it will be fun to watch.

I'm also intrigued about both teams this year, but in particular the lady's team. I hear we have a nice class of freshmen coming in. I hear they're very athletic and tough. Adding Amy Patton and Stephen Jenkins and some of the other girls already on the team like the defensive minded Huntington and Tooney as maybe the back up point guard (behind the freshmen Boler) I'm hoping this team will turn things around and make the big sky tourney and who knows what can happen from there.

The guys also look solid as we have most everybody back. With Jones leading the way we should be solid in all positions, specially if everyone stays healthy. Let's get it started already!!!

Mt. Jack give us some input of the teams since you're down there and will be going to the games. I'm specially curious at how the girls will perform at ASU. Have fun and don't forget to give us (me since I'm the only one here) the rundown 8)

I don't know if I'm going to predict an upset in Tempe on Friday night but the Lumberjacks should be able to stay close to the Sundevils. I'll try to remember to post some thoughts here on Saturday night or Sunday.

King - Have you read this article on NAU women's hoops yet?

Dbackjon - Will you be at Wells Fargo Arena tomorrow night? I called NAU's ticket office and they told me to check with ASU re: tickets.

yea, I read it a few weeks back. Have fun at the game. Wish I was a little closer to the action

Well...Friday night shows how much I know. Not exactly the close game I was predicting. I showed up late to Wells Fargo Arena after picking up my niece from practice and the score was already 25-2 - advantage Sundevils. Game was done before I sat down as NAU just got blitzed. NAU does have quite a bit of talent on that roster but the Jacks looked out of sorts at times. It was apparent they're very young. Free throws were damned atrocious but it was the same from ASU. Lots of room for improvement but I also saw some silver lining to the cloud bank as well. ASU's defensive pressure lived up to its hype. I attend a few ASU womens game a year and root for them usually. I really hope the Sundevils stick it to Tennessee next week.

NAU womens hoops will be better this year than last season.

I was able to watch the game on the ASU website and you pretty much covered it well. They looked very young and unorganized. They are more athletic and quick than they have been in the past, but don't yet know how to use that to their advantage. They don't work well together and it looks like they're not used to playing with each other. Comparing ASU to NAU is not fair. ASU was a lot taller, more talented, and a bit more organized. They totally dominated NAU because they are by far a better team than NAU, but I agree with you. I think NAU will be a better team than last year. I still haven't seen 3 of the new team members play. I wonder if they will red shirt this year. Hope this game is not indicative of the rest of the season.
