Why is Mike Lund such a fine example of a Viking?
Because he IS a Viking. Lund is Scandanavian (Swedish) for (i) grove of trees, (ii) forest, (iii) woods, (iv) woodland, (v) timberland. In Portland, and thus for Portland State University, he is perfectly situated.
Swedes are also plentiful in Washington and Minnesota and tend to do very socially in terms of job titles and other indicators of social rank. He's a graduate of Lewis & Clark College. Maybe that's why his voice resonates so agreeably on the radio.
I recommend we get other true Vikings on staff with names perhaps such as Sorenson, Jergens and Erickson. Is there a Scandanavian Festival with which our Vikings could hook up with their Vikings? This would be a good way to "prestigify" our Viking institution. If I'm not mistaken, Wim Wiewell may also be a true Viking.
