Mike Scheper has joined the Portland State football staff as the new defensive ends coach in 2012. Scheper has a variety of experience from high school to junior college to Division I and to the Canadian Football League.

Scheper replaces former defensive line coach Malik Roberson, who moved on to Central Washington as that school's new defensive coordinator. Current staffer, Ikaika Malloe, who is the special teams coordinator, will also coach defensive tackles for the Vikings.

"Mike has done everything from Division I at Fresno to the CFL, junior college and high school," said Viking Coach Nigel Burton. "He has coached offensive and defensive line. His ability to know offensive protections and run-game rules, the little things, make him a valuable coach. And the things he was able to do at a high level in the CFL; they had one of the best seasons for defensive line play in the history of the Saskatchewan organization."

Both of Scheper's defensive ends, Stevie Baggs and John Chick, earned CFL All-Star honors in 2010, leading the league in quarterback sacks with 12 and 11, respectively. Chick was the CFL Defensive Player of the Year. Saskatechewan won its Division title for the first time in 34 years.

Scheper coached at College of the Canyons in 2011. Other coaching credits include Fresno State, Glendale Community College and St. Francis (CA) High School.

A native of southern California, Scheper is a 2002 graduate of Utah State where he played center for the Aggies.
