Missed Tackles

Did anyone read today's Tribune about the UNC defense and their struggle missing tackles? Pretty interesting and could point to several things. If you know the game you know that missing tackles are usually one of two things or both so either ...

A. The players are not as strong as the offensive players. That is on the players and coach Dinky.
B. They're not being taught proper technique. I don't think this is the issue. I have seen improper tackling from really anyone.
C. Players aren't being discipline with their technique. If I were Collins and I saw a player not using proper technique I would bench them. Again...not certain this is the case.

So is coach Dinky the problem here???

I am looking at it from a business perspective. If you are the boss and you are losing money month after month, what are you doing wrong? Its either not having the right people or mismanagement or both. You have to surround yourself with good people and practice good habits ! And that starts from the top and we don't even have a Captain ( AD ) sailing the ship ! Please, the powers that be, get your head out of your ass !!

Not sure if they are not as strong, but you want to train in the positions you play in as much as possible. Having a bunch of sets on your workout of lifts which do not replicate a movement on the football field is a wasted workout. Bar dips for example, when have you seen a movement on the field in which that movement is performed by a player? Squatting on leg press machines rather than in a standing, athletic position, same thing there. I don't know the full extent of the UNC S&C program, just a couple small things I noticed.

I agree it starts from the top and you guys both need and deserve an AD who will get your program back to where it was.

He's got a good resume and was supposed to be pretty good. Here's his profile.

Strength has some to do with tackling but I think it has to do more with technique and taking the right angles to the ball. I put blame on Collins and the D Coordinator. Obviously they didn't place enough emphasis on tackling back during fall camp and they aren't doing it now either. I get you want limit the amount of contact the players have the later you go into the season but there are drills you can do. When watching the game yesterday what I saw was the players consistently playing out of position, and their tackling is atrocious.
