Montana and Montana State will no longer meet in Saturday basketball doubleheaders come next season.
The Big Sky schedule instead split up the men and women from both rival schools. One will play in Bozeman and one will play in Missoula. And both meetings will happen on Mondays in 2014.
No other Big Sky schools played two games in one venue, so accommodating the rivalry adjusted the schedule too much for other teams.
Montana's coaches understand why the switch needed to happen, but both showed more frustration about playing on a Monday.
"You don't want to play your rival and probably your biggest draw of the conference season on a Monday. I mean, the big thing is as coaches we want to make sure that it's fair and equitable to everybody. It looks that way. I think everybody plays at least one game on a Monday," Griz coach Wayne Tinkle said.
