Runnin' Utes Host Montana Wednesday
Utah men's basketball looks to make it a 2-0 start to the 2010-11 campaign.

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah men's basketball team (1-0) will look to win its second straight home contest to open the 2010-11 season Wednesday as it hosts Montana (0-1). Tip-off at the Jon M. Huntsman Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Utah is coming off a 26-point victory in its season-opener against Grand Canyon, 72-48. The Runnin' Utes saw four players score in double figures, led by game highs of 14 points and eight rebounds from junior wing Will Clyburn, in his first game in a Utah uniform. Other Utes scoring in double digits were sophomore center Jason Washburn with 12 points and junior guard Josh Watkins and sophomore guard Chris Hines, each with 11.

Sophomore wing Shawn Glover and freshman guard J.J. O'Brien each tied Clyburn's game-high eight rebounds. Watkins had a game-high six assists in his Ute debut. Utah finished with 16 helpers while turning it over just eight times, a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.

The Utes were dominant on the glass as they collected 52 rebounds, the second-highest total in four years under head coach Jim Boylen.

Montana stumbled on the road in its season-opener, dropping an 81-66 contest at Nevada. The Grizzlies out-rebounded Nevada 40-29, but shot just 38.6% from the field (22-of-57), while allowing the Wolf Pack to shoot at a 50.0% clip (25-of-50). Brian Qvale provided nearly one third of Montana's offense, racking up a game-high 20 points on 7-of-13 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Qvale also chipped in eight rebounds, while the Grizzlies were led by Derek Selvig's game-high 11 boards.
Boylen, who enters his fourth year at the helm for the Utes, owns a 57-42 (.576) record, including a 34-13 (.723) mark at home. Wednesday's contest will mark his 100th game on the bench for the Utes. Montana is coached by fifth-year man Wayne Tinkle, who now holds a 70-54 (.565) record.

It looks like the Utes have three legitimate scoring threats, along with Washburn. Its going to be interesting to see how Weber can play defense against them.

You've got to two Watkins (I dont' think they are related), Washburn, and Clyburn. Hines can hit some shoots, along with Glover, and Foster is a rebounding/blocking machine, but he struggles with PFs and TOs. All in all, I really think if Weber can get into their offense and move the ball well then the Cats should score at will. Utah hasn't looked that great on defense. UM isn't the strongest offensive team. Tinkle prides himself on his teams defense.
