Montana Prediction...

This week I'm trying something different. Here in Boise a radio personality that knows nothing of football predicts outcomes of NFL games. He competes with a lucky call in person that knows about NFL matchups. The radio guy, who is into Star Trek, and other science fiction stuff actually does a better job. He picks teams in matchups by their team color, whether he likes or dislikes mascots, etc.

I've sucked at predictions so far. So I'm going to try this without researching Montana at all. Well, here it goes...

U of Montana is in Missoula. Their colors are silver and maroon - the same as the high school where my kids went to school... Centennial. ISU is in Pocatello and it's colors are orange and black, the same colors as my high school, Idaho Falls. Advantage: Even.

Missoula has a Fuddruckers. Pocatello has Fazolis. Advantage: Montana

U of M are the Grizzlies. ISU are the Bengals. Idaho Falls High School were the Tigers and our biggest rivals were Skyline Grizzlies. (I did not like the Skyline Grizzlies)! Advantage: ISU

Missoula is relatively close to Spokane and reasonably close to Moscow (home of the Vandals). Enough said... Advantage: ISU.

Upset factor favors ISU. Advantage: ISU.

My scorecard: ISU 4, Montana 2. Okay, my prediction... UPSET CITY! ISU 28 - Montana 27

I would give my left .... for an ISU win, I hate Montana.
But.........

31 -20 Montana University

The Montana game will be shown at Buster's in Eagle at 3 pm, for those that are interested. Buster's carries all the Montana games.

It doesn't mean all that much to you, so do us a favor and just take a dive so the BSC gets a good seed. Ok? Ok. Thanks.

There ya go again "Da Griz"...wanting people to give you something on a silver platter instead of earning it yourself. It's a good thing your players and coaches don't think like you, or you guys would be winless!

BoiseBengal--how is the seating at Buster's? Any chance of being able to see the action once you get there?

If so--my son and I will be there this Saturday.

Hey Da Griz,

Is that what you want? And empty championship where the competition sold itself out? If that's the case, the Big Sky Championship is pretty hollow.

Don't you know that all Griz fans care about is wins, no matter if they come from tradition, facilities, press, reffing, dirty tricks, etc.?

Cub, it's pretty good, there's lots of tables and chairs at Buster's. Will be looking forward to seeing you and meeting your little one!

Statistically, this game should be UM route.

The key stats I look for to make a reasonable prediction of the outcome are: 3rd down conversions, opponent's 3rd down conversion, turnover margin, red zone O, and red zone D. ALL OF THEM FAVOR UM.

Other things to consider:
  • Senior day - there will be a lot of emotion on Caccia Field and ISU play hard for the seniors for 4 quarters
  • This is ISU's playoff game - a win over UM can be a huge boost in recruiting and be a part of Z-man's plan of building a winning culture
  • Trap game for UM? - perusing the Griz board there are some fans who are cautiously optimistic hoping UM doesn't look ahead to the "Brawl in the Wild" match up with MSU
ISU has got to establish the running game (hopefully JB can break the record on Caccia Field). The threat of the run opens up RH to take shots downfield with ET, JT, and CL via play action and rollouts. The more 5-WR sets ISU runs, the more in trouble ISU is in. Take care of the ball and don't give UM a short field.

On defense, ISU must tackle better and prevent the home run, momentum grabber/changer-type plays to keep the ISU fans in the game, and to quiet the UM fans (gotta give UM credit - they travel well). Create turnovers, and get off the field on 3rd down.

ISU has to play perfect, or near perfect ball, and UM's got to have breakdowns (either self-inflicted or created by ISU) for ISU to have a chance to win. I'd be stoked if ISU pulls the upset!!!

That said, I think UM withstands ISU senior day/last home game emotion in the first half. ISU seems to make mistakes (a turnover, a holding penalty negating a momentum grabber play on offense; a roughing the passer penalty on 3rd and long, coverage bust on defense) in critical moments of the game. I see this happening and UM pulling away from ISU.....UM 34, ISU 17.

From the sidelines of Caccia Field, this is John Clayton, BengalDen.com ;D

DaGriz, can I ask you something? How does it feel to be ugly AND stupid? I mean, fans down here have suffered plenty of setbacks and bad seasons, but we don't have to get drunk to watch our team play. Unlike you pack animals...

Here's to Cody Balogh in getting his legs chopped off, here's to Doug Fullerton in watching his precious Grizz lose the game, and here's to our team as they celebrate while the Traveling Circus (as your fans shall henceforth be named) looks on in agony

Speaking of stupid........Classy post.

I guess I'll speak for the rest of the Griz fans, and the Big Sky for that matter - when I offer my apologies that you are a Bengal fan and have had to endure your awful hardships.

Hot thread...

Super:

Chill...

Monte: That might not have been Super's best post, however for his faults he gets one pass here - he is a true orange and black Bengal fan. This is his home turf and you are the visitor of the week, so I hope you understand that we will deal with ours but tell you back off.

I've been to Missoula and parts north of there, and love the country... In all of it's serenity however, I'm reasonably optimistic ya'll understand figures of speech and don't take everything literally...

Clayton, your post hits all the points I would mention, and your outcome prediction is a high probability... However, I am refusing to buy into rational conclusions and stay on the orange and black side of the equation and hope like hell we get an ISU up day and a UM down day. That can stand everything on its head and turn the game around.

The actuality is that ISU is probably the most capable and unpredictable team UM has played. I don't mean play selection predictability - we need to do much better there - I mean that UM really does not know which team they are going to face on any given play.

Please run the ball with intent. Pick your spot, make the blocks, and get 3.4 yards minimum. That's all it takes to move the sticks. Give JB a chance to start running. Everything else will open up.

The longer the offense holds the ball, the less exposed the defense is.

The Griz come into Poky at a very odd time in history... This game should be all about the Bengals. Griz who?

Let's do this!

Hey - we can't be the only drunk fanbase on Saturday. Here's to a good time.

HA!!! Monte, you Montana fans are the ones to talk about being classy...heh, I almost fell off my chair!!! Your fans are pretty much as crazy as I am. I bleed Orange and Black. I want to win, and I want glory for my university. There are no such things as "Moral Victories" with me, they are cop-outs. I am a fanatic, pure and simple.

I think Cody should have served a good suspension for that hit. It was intentional, you know it.
However, seeing as how my feistiness is getting the better of me, I'll tone it down just a tad...(just a tad)

Here's to Cody not getting his legs chopped off. Sound better?

MOST IMPORTANTLY!
Here's to this game starting a new era where ISU finally finds a true rival! Here's to a game that I hope fulfills my intentions (or at least gets them on the move) and awakens a community that has for too long been dormant.

Have a safe trip down here and back up, alright? (I mean that).
And please, again, leave your sheep outside

ISU has been putting points on the board this season and you have a couple of home losses to some good teams. But I don't think ISU will be able to handle the Griz this year.

The Griz defense is one of the best in the nation. They will not let up all day. You won't have much of run game.

I'm not a Hauck fan, but I do know for certain, he is focused on this weeks ISU game and not looking a week ahead. Some of the fans might be, but he isn't and I know he's not letting his team do it either. They will be there to play.

Unfortunatly, ISU will get a Griz team that is clicking on Offense, Defense, and Special Teams. I really don't see any other outcome.

Go out and enjoy and cheer on your seniors, they deserve a pat on the back from loyal fans!

Good luck!!!

Griz 48

ISU 13
