You guys know there is a game tonight, right? Thoughts? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? There used to be people on this board that actually believed in Viking Basketball.

I believe.

I believe we're 5-12.

Hopefully this will be a good game. The last three games versus Montana in Portland have been decided by a total of eight points.

UM is an athletic team that is well coached. I hope they run the table in the sky and get a good seed in the ncaa tourney.

We, on the other hand, are an athletic team that is not so well coached.

- 1.5 seconds to go in the first half and we let a team get a bucket?

- Slashing UM guards score at will in the second half and we go to two bigs in the last two minutes or so?

- Prosser so gassed that he can barely get down court, yet no time out to get a sub in?

We looked good at times, but the lack of discipline on both ends of the court in the second half really showed.

Frustrating to watch.

No more Sobotkas. No more Gevings. Barring any unforeseen turn of events, I see Geving going down in Viking history as Joel Sobotka II, the king is dead. We need to end this practice of blindly handing the job of head coach over to an unproven assistant even if it means continuation of a heretofore winning system under the head coach for whom the assistant worked. It doesn't seem to work in basketball the way it can in football. We need more Ken Bones and no more Sobotkas. This was a confirmatory learning experience. Let us never again commit this hiring decision error again! From now on, nation-wide searches are the order of the day.

Geving is a good recruiter and assistant head coach and needs to be true to that identity, and not try to be what he is not. Maybe he can be a head coach at a high school like Joel Sobotka is now.

I think, a coach somewhere between Bones and Geving would fit the bill. Bones got results/wins on the court but failed with the teams API, on the other hand Geving improved the teams API but has not been as successful on the court. I wonder how much of the teams problem are the players themselves. How can a team perform at such a high level against Sac then take a major nose dive. Something is definitely wrong.
I'm hoping the future Viking Pavilion will attract better athletes and coaches to PSU, and of course more fans. Let us hope the Pavilion becomes a reality, it seems like the athletic department is making a real effort to make it happen. Hope the lottery money isn't cut from athletics, that could have major affect on all programs.
Anyway, hope the team finds a way to turn things around and not give up.

Probably not much to disagree with there - there certainly is a missing element. Interesting to see what does or does not happen in the off-season.
