This will be a true cat fight. Coach Hill said to expect a "blood bath." Both teams are physical and similar in a lot of ways. Don't expect much offense as neither team has much.

I would very much expect a game very much like the one we just played. Neither team puts up any beautiful offensive numbers but both are very strong defensively. The biggest difference we will see this weekend is the style of offense our opponent runs. Like us Montana State's strength offensively is the run game with a weak / suspect pass game. We are literally looking in the mirror this weekend. Both teams are 4-2 overall and 2-1 in BSC play.

This game could very well come down to Special Teams. Which I believe favors us. And although I do like the guts of going for it on fourth down sometimes, if we are in field goal range....kick the Field goal. I do think both teams were kind of scared of the wind so both went for it more than they probably should have on Saturday. Eastern alone was in field goal range several times but elected to go for it and Weber's D stepped up to the challenge.

So far the only common opponent we have played is Eastern Washington, both at home. Weber coming away with a 14-6 win and Montana State falling 34-17. If I am not mistaken, Gubrud did start in the MSU game but got injured halfway through. The Bobcats are coming off a weird game vs Idaho this last weekend were Idaho scored late hoping to tie it only to miss the PAT and MSU would go on to win 24-23.

Cant wait to watch Weber take on one of our oldest rivals from Montana State in "The Battle of the Mountain Cats." Montana State leads the all time series 30-22-1, BUT Weber has won the last two games 45-27 in 2016 in Ogden and last season's 25-17 win in Bozeman Montana.

On a side note...This will be the 3rd year in a row Weber and Montana State will play on Root Sports.....sounds like root is trying to build a rivalry.

Big Sky Breakdown: Jeff Choate on Weber State matchup
https://skylinesportsmt.com/big-sky-breakdown-jeff-choate-on-weber-state-matchup/

Montana State head coach Jeff Choate recaps his team’s 24-23 victory over Idaho and looks ahead to Saturday’s game at No. 7 Weber State.

MSU will come in with a good defense. As good as EWU's? probably not, but good none the less. Offensively, they will run, run some more, and pass every once in a while. Our D's task will be the same as last Saturday, stop the run and force them to be a passing team. I think our D will be up for it.

I also think that our O can continue to take steps. We are showing some signs of life on that side of the ball. If all of our RBs are healthy and ready to go, we could be hard for them to stop. They will be trying to take away our run game as well. Although, I think our passing game will take off sometime this season. Right about now would be great.

I also think that we will see at least one more run back on a punt or Kick off.

We also used to see a few trick plays. It would be nice to see something along those lines this game. :coffee:

I just read that we are one of the best return teams in the BSC. Add to that, MSU gives up the most return yards in the BSC. Our returners should be licking their chops for this one. History could be made on Saturday.

The Bobcats are going to do whatever they can to keep the ball away from our returners.

As far as other special teams are concerned, points may be hard to come by so if we are in field goal range we need to go for the points.

4th down would be preferable.

The bobs run the ball a lot. Looking over their stats, for instance, last week, the bobs had 91 yards of passing. However, even though they do run a lot, they do run well. They are very effective moving the ball on the ground. Whoever runs the ball the best; wins. hahahaha

Both teams will stack the box and try to stop the other from running. That tells me that there will be some really good chances to pass down field. There will be a lot of man coverages with no support over the top. Maybe the team who is more efficient in the passing game will have the biggest advantage. This will be an opportunity for our QBs to shine. It is also an opportunity for our DBs to get some picks, If we can force them into passing situations.

I can see this game both as a defensive struggle, or it could become a high scoring game if one team can establish the running game.

From a post on facebook it looks like we are going going with purple helmets, Black jerseys and purple pants.

It took us 7 games into the season to wear our purple pants. Its about time

Weber State’s special teams key cog in Wildcats’ success

Really looking forward to this one. Montana St. will probably keep the ball away from our returners and force Constantine to lead long drives. I fully expect they have a trick play prepared for the first quarter. They will need to try something to open up their run game.

Weber offense really needs to protect the ball. Constantine needs to get rid of the ball or cover it up when the blitz is coming. He’s put the ball on the ground too many times. Can’t afford to give up any easy points in a game like this.

I don't see our D giving up many points. We just held a stronger offense to 6 points. Our D doesn't give up more than 3 to MSU. However, our O could give up some points. I hope not, but it could.

To win this game, our O just needs a couple of scores. Our D will score at least once and our return game will score at least once, or set up some short fields for the O.

I'm not sure how EWU's D compares to MSU's, but EWU had a good defense. I suspect that MSU's pass defense will not be as good as EWU's. There could be some opportunities to go deep in this game. :coffee:

Well last week, I thought Weber State would have to score 30 plus to win. With the game expected to be a defensive struggle, maybe another surprise is in line and both teams score more than expected. I’ll say Weber State 31 Montana State 21. Choate is a good coach and the Bobcats are a tough team. Should be a good game to watch.

GAME DAY!!!

Time to take on one of our oldest rivals in the "Battle of the Cats" Here's hoping the WILDcats can come out on top and continue our quest for another Big Sky title and a 3rd straight trip to the playoffs.

GO WILDCATS!

Weber wins a close game if they win the turnover margin and control the clock. If Weber can pass for over 200 yards, we win by 17. If we lose the turnover battle, we probably lose the game.

Predicting a Wildcats win 30-13
I think we end up with a balanced offense with 150 yards rushing and 200 yards passing, +2 turnovers, and the defense dominates the Bobcats O-line.

MSU 2 of 6 games played away, including 1 of 3 BSC games. They're giving up 34 ppg on the road, while scoring 28 ppg. They're scoring 28 ppg vs BSC, while giving up 27 ppg. They lost at home to common opponent EWU 34-17.

WSU 3 of 6 games played at home, including 2 of 3 BSC games. They're scoring 29 ppg at home, while giving up 15 ppg. They're scoring 28 ppg vs BSC, while giving up 21 ppg. They beat at home common opponent EWU 14-6.

I'll go with the Wild(er)cats 27-17

Could not make it to the game. Watching it on (shudder) Root Sports on mute with the homers calling the game. This look like a replay of NAU game. Offense putting D in terrible position. Need to come to life and quit lining up in shotgun on 3rd and 1s in the red zone.

Awful injury for Jenks. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Completely awful half of football and we are down 3. Hill better have a spy on their QB the rest of the game. No need to blitz when he can’t complete a pass.
