Montana State Expansion (a bit of UNC talk as well)

I posted this in the Big Sky section but I think it's worth a look here (where more of us hang out). It's a vedeo rendering of the Montana State football stadium expansion. It's really impressive and reminds me how far we have to go at Jackson field.

That being said, one of the things I love about going to Bears games is sitting on the West side and looking out over Turner hall and the rest of the West campus. Just a great view of a very pretty part of the school. If we were to expand the East stands, that view would be gone.

Unfortunatly we underbuilt Nottingham at the start. Obviously cost is a factor but it would have been better to wait a year or two and build it to 12K (with the east side matching the west side) and with lockerrooms from jump street. Construction costs are only going up and that's why we're kicking ourselves now.

Montana State is ambitous but talk is cheap so we'll see.

Montana on the other hand is building a pretty bad ass second deck so they are stepping up big time once again.

I agree with Blofeld. But, the only thing cheaper than talk is the "virtual" stadium change video that was produced for the potential donors. Who in the hell would pay for a south stands sky box? Talk about a bad view! Only a rube from Montana State.
I say F*&K em'. All that matters is what goes on down on the field.

Hell, Montana in November/December, I would love to watch the game from a suite like that. Nice and cozy.

That is a cool plan - I think we have a plan to add 6 more seats soon. Each person in the AD's office has agreed to bring a folding chair from home.

I will admit, I've been in Sky boxes at many different facilities but south stands? I'd rather sit in my car in the parking lot and listen to the game on my car radio (drinking cheap beer) than watch a game from the south stands. I watched a Broncos game from the south stands once and thought, " Thank god I didn't pay for these tickets!"

My season tickets to the Broncos were in the South Stands and they were great (especially in the old stadium). Especially for $20 a ticket!

How close to the top were you? I sat down towards the bottom and couldn't see squat!

Row 7. It was great, we were high enough to see over the people walking in the front and were close enough to feel the game. After a while (3 or 4 games) you get used to the depth perception problems when the ball was on the other side of the field. I remember during the first game they ran a sweep and I thought they had gained like 10 yards, I was cheering. People around me thought I was nuts because they only gained like 3 yards.

I got better.

I still remember the Rod Smith td catch against the Redskins to win the game in the last minute as it happened right in front of us.

I was there as well, but on the north end. Great view of that bullet pass from behind. Has to be one of the great moments at Mile High, and I have only seen five games.

Back on subject, Nottingham is sufficient for now. Success breeds success, it has to happen somewhere. Imagine having a stadium like Bobcat Stadium, with only 4 or 5 thousand spectators in it on game day.

If we can even acheive a moderate level of sucess, we will pack NF every game. Remember Jay's first season, we drew 9000 to one game. Lets do that on a regular basis and then look to expand. Right now NF looks empty, and I would rather have a full, but small stadium than an empty bigger one...
