Well, that stings.

Canzano just posted that Portland State is not too happy with this decision. I have to agree as it goes totally against everything the Timbers said about football at Providence Park. I understand Paulsen can ban football there...but to then play football there???

Any of my friends in Timbers Army reading this will take their shot here at the notion of Merritt Paulson being a purist.

If he was a sport purist, there'd be grass in the stadium already. But that's not the case.

Paulson is a purist for money. PSU can't really afford an expanded Providence Park. Oregon State will probably fill it, though the concept of them playing Montana State there is a bit bruising.

But this says something about Oregon State, no?

So all the excuses back when PSU was negotiating with the Timbers no longer hold water? Lines on the field interfering with the image on TV? Football can't be played on grass? Cleats tearing up the field?

From what I recall, it had nothing to do with rent, but everything to do with the logistics of football being played on their hallowed "pitch".

Also, the Beavers are giving the Bobcats a hefty payday to play this game anyway. Due to COVID, it was reported that they were losing money and they also had the smallest athletic budget of any of the Pac-12 schools. Now, they are paying top dollar to play on the Timbers "pitch"? Sorry, but something smells fishy here.

Without the west stands in Reser tonight, it still wasn’t even full for the Oregon State game against Boise State.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of tickets available for this September 17 game. Put it this way; my Timbers season tickets run $35 a game on average. Single game usually runs $48, closer to $60 when Seattle visited last week. For the 17th, my seat (probably at the 20j seems to be available for $25.

Ticketwise it was a sellout, I was also there, pretty much full. Boise State returned a good some of their allotment.

Only reason why this game is being played at Providence is the construction happening at Reser.

That’s not the only reason. How much hype could the Boise State game have had if it were in Portland?

It wasn’t just the student section that was less than full. And I will grant that this may have happened because of ticket brokers getting their slice while people weren’t that interested. But people aren’t that interested and Reser is at reduced capacity. At some point, some of the blame for that has to go back to the school (or pro teams… the Timbers are also complicit for these kinds of things happening at PP). That’s a large part of my point.

The brokers don’t seem to be a problem for the PP game… though it looks like several sections are starting to fill up. What’s funny is the $15 seats in the north end.

I'm going. Viks are off next week and my brother (OSU season ticket holder) got me a ticket to the game. We're meeting up downtown, then heading over to the game (and remembering what once was, and what may be possible again, someday).

So Barnum and Canzano are now pissed off? Funny, I was pissed off last June when they announced the game.

All this talk about a soccer-only stadium so the Timber could have all these "international friendlies" and other soccer events, yet the only thing they can come up with is.......an American football game? (That is "football", not "futbol")

Sunday, I will tell you how pissed off I was being there. :x

I think the TV shots showed another “dubious” sellout. Which… we’ve discussed this.

A lot of people around the country thinks this is their father’s Beavers, rather than the ones who beat USC and Utah last year. At least the Bobcats have put up 21 before the end of the 3rd. If Montana State had only scheduled Colorado…
