Montana State

Looking ahead to our next game, Montana State at home. A passing team and their quarterback, Prokop, is one of the best in the conference. This game is huge and we could make a big statement in the conference race with a win. The game will be televised on ROOT sports, the only time we are on ROOT this year. MSU fans travel well and no doubt will have a big contingent of fans here. We do have a possible conflict with the Beaver game, although that game is on the road (at Wazzu). The Ducks play late. But there is a buzz around the city with our win today. Bring your family, tell your friends, badger your co-workers. Time to Pack the Park!!!

Where are the best seats these days? I used to sit in the lower 200 areas and loved it (roof, TV perspective, people), but now I am seeing that the PSU sideline is on the other side. Is it better to club seats? Are there people over there? Haven't been to a Vikings game in a while. Time to change that.

Please, please join us in the lower 200 section. There are still enough of us to make some noise, and we will need as many as possible to (kind of) neutralize the opposing fans (who knows, maybe this year that could actually happen?)

Early weather report says the rain will hold off until Sunday. Temps should be in the low 70's and partly cloudy skies. Bobcat defense has allowed 55 points and 49 points in their two games on the road so far (EWU and NAU). This will be their 3rd game of five on ROOT sports, we only get 1 this year. They beat Sacramento State, 35-13 yesterday.

Prukop is good, but it's worth noting that that Prukop and Kuresa are 3 and 4 in the Big Sky in passing efficiency. How good is their secondary? How good is ours? They do allow a lot of points; how effective will our defense be to slow them down? It's going to be a good game.

Any word on if Sibley will be able to go on Saturday?

Maybe too early to tell. He'll probably be re-evaluated later on this week. Hamstrings can be nagging at times, even healthy.

Your running back will have a career day, and your QB may very well throw more TDs than incompletions.

Our defense is a work in progress, and last week was the best it has looked it a while, but our secondary is suspect, our LBs are young and inexperienced although talented, but they miss assignments and gaps. Our DLine typically does not generate a pass rush whatsoever, although against Sac we moved some guys around on the line and it produced better results.

Our offense has been feast or famine. We either score with big plays, or go 3 and out it seems.

If I was PSU I would do exactly what NAU did. They completely shut down MSU's offense, especially Prukop, until late in the game when the game was all but over. The score, 41-49, was deceptive of the ass kicking we really received in Flagstaff. Prukop was spied all game and every time he wanted to scramble, or had a designed keeper, he was met at the line. He didn't have much time passing as NAU was able to get a consistent rush on him, and we also had some... interesting playcalls.

This was one of the game's in the preseason I thought we'd win easily, but PSU looks legit and I'm concerned we won't slow PSU down, and PSU will slow us down, and this could get ugly.

I would advise everyone going to the game to buy tickets before hand and not wait until game time. The stadium hasn't been opening enough ticket windows and the ticket lines were too long for the WOU game.

Would be great if we could get 10,000 to 15,000 in attendance for Saturday's game. Should be an exciting time. I'm going for the first half, and then must leave to attend a wedding. The nerve of some people getting married during football season!!!!

Vikings seem to be playing good this year, which I am actually happy about, I watched the WSU game and cheered for you guys all the way, I cant stand Leach.

Cats are pretty Jekyll and Hyde this year on both sides, if the right team shows up I believe we could win by 40 points, but it the other team shows up we could lose by 40, More than likely I think it will be a wild game that comes down to the wire.

A good chance the Cats will bring that many themselves.

Seriously, it would be great to get some Ducks and Beavers fans to come out and see this game. I would like to have a Portland crowd that would at least match the Cats fans there.

I appreciate your insight and fair appraisal of MSU. I think what the past couple of weeks has shown is that the Big Sky is wide open. If Barney doesn't try to force the offense into a pure run game come hell or high water, if he allows the game to develop and adjust with the flow, I think PSU will be better off.

We've had real defensive struggles on the road. But we do seem to improving. Take a small step forward, then revert, then forward. I think overall we are a better defense than we were last year, but only by a little. We returned only 3 starters from last year's lackluster squad, and the starting lineup is filled with FR and SOs.

We rotate a ton of guys, but I'll list the key contributors, bolding most likely to start.

Along the DL we go:
DE Hutchins 6'3 215 (RS JR but first real playing time this year, slimmed down to play LB but got moved back to DE, pass rush specialist)
DE Clark 6'3 245(JC JR, first year here, got cleared academically 4 days into fall camp)
DE Fa'anono 6'2 250 (True SO, started quite a bit last year as a True FR)
DE Jeffries 6'1 250 (RS SO)
DT Yates 6' 310 (RS FR, has plugged into the starting role last week and really helped run game)
DT Sheridan 6'4 285 (SR)
DT Thomas 6'3 285 (JR but was out of college ball for a year due to some off the field issues, last year first real year playing since high school)
DT Bignell 6'2 290 (SR)

LB:
OLB Bignell 6' 180 (SO, plays fast and hard, first year playing)
OLB Braun 6'2 227 (SO, been injured on and off until this year)
MLB Collins 6'4 222 (RS FR, probably the most talented of the group, coming on strong as a FR)
OLB Tappan 6'2 235 (SO, 1st year transfer from Cincinnati, never played, trasnfered from JC, first real action in 3 years)

Secondary:
S Carter 6'2 190 (SR,1st year transfer from UAB after program ended, was their starter, has underwhelmed)
S Garcia 5'10 178 (SO, thrust into starting lineup last year, hits about the hardest on the team despite smaller stature)
S King 6' 192 (FR, rotates in)
CB Keeton 6'2 190 (SR transfer from Nevada, started last year, probably our best passing defener, not that that is saying a whole lot)
CB Strong (6'1 190 (True Freshman, as you'd expect for a FR CB he gets burned but is making strides)
CB Timmer 6' 183 (SR, injury plauged career, looked poise to finally take reigns but has been plagued with inconsistency, lost his starting job to Strong)
CB Alley 5'11 165 (True SO, not much of a factor yet)

As you can see, we only have 3 upperclassmen starting, and 1 is a 1st year transfer. We are very young and the guys who are upperclassmen, many are transfers trying to fit into the new system. New DC, new system, young kids all over, equals plenty of bad play so far, but they are showing signs of life here and there!

Haha, we'd like to do that, but we are pretty quiet watchers, so I'd just like to be where the Viking crowds are the thickest. That used to be in the 100/200 area, but now that the Vikings sideline is on the other side (or has it always been?), I wonder where most Vikings fans sit.

This game is the first for me in the club seats. After the Timbers refurbished the layout, it seemed strange to me to be sitting behind the visitors, but I did through last season. I missed the WOU game so I thought I'd try it on the other side (the strong side).

I'm trolling Bobcat Nation and it seems they are having issues with their plane. Hard to tell exactly but it doesn't sound like the team is in Portland yet.

Of course, scooter is stirring the pot, telling them to bus it.

So just to confirm, the club side is the stronger one in terms of Vikings fans attendance? I might just toss a coin.
