Montana State

Bobcats still seem to be a bit unsettled at quarterback, although Tucker Rovig had a big game this past weekend over Wagner. Jonsen has not taken over the reins like I thought when Murray said he'd be gone for the season. Jonsen has been playing a bit at receiver, much like how we've been using Koetter. Bobcats come in 2-1, but they did lose their only road game to South Dakota State, currently ranked just behind North Dakota State and James Madison in most polls. FWIW, one of our closer games all last season was the loss in Bozeman in the wind to them.

I first said it before fall camp and I'm not wavering now. I think we get the win this weekend. :thumb:

Massey does not see it quite that way: https://www.masseyratings.com/game.php?s0=300937&t0=Portland+state&h=0&s1=300937&t1=Montana+State

Well, what do they know. They don't even know we changed logos last year. :ohno:

I meant to send this earlier, but I've got two tickets for the Montana State game up for grabs. I hate to miss the game, but Maui isn't a bad alternative.

Cost:

Montana State Fan: 500.00 each
Portland State Fan: Free

:-)

PM me and I'll find a way to get them to you.

In the Helena Independent Record, a look at Saturday's game from the MSU perspective: https://helenair.com/sports/college/big-sky-conference/montana-state-university/montana-state-tries-to-keep-offensive-momentum-going-as-big/article_4fff45ec-bf61-5f28-b11e-66f3ca237ad6.html

@bigskyconf, I really enjoy your analysis. I'm trying to keep my faith so appreciate your call for the game this weekend. @martymoose, have a great time in Maui, but why escape Oregon when the weather has been so awesome... :thumb:

My prediction for the year has not changed. We are half way to my estimate of 2 wins. I really hope we can beat the Bobcats but adding QB musical chairs to my list of weaknesses this year leaves me sad. I hope for a win but...

Go Viks...

Little doubt who is better team. Can’t score from the 10. On next series, big play for MSU. Looks like long night and season. One back? Maybe, but not lookingg good. There’s a talent mismatch.

Here is my observation, which really doesn't mean much. But watching this team week after week now I haven't seen many defense rotations. DC is sticking with his players even tho they can't contain the edge. Some of these boys are very slow. If your losing, why not shake it up and try a few others.

Offense play calling is terrible. Even I am able to tell what they are going to do. No one on the offense is clicking.

1-10 this year.

1-10 this year. Great observation, There's alot I would like to say but I don't want to jeopardize my son in any way. And I don't want to sound like the put my son in dad.

I think I fixed it for you. :D

If you won't say it, then I will. You've won 4 games in the last 2.5 years. Your "new" defense this year is picking up from where the "old" defense left off last year. (I use quotes because it is hard to differentiate between the two, to be honest). Your safety (or the "rover") running up to play tight leaving the middle wide open is just begging for a quick slant to be thrown. And the horrendous angle that Inos took in trying to take down the quarterback on his long run was pathetic. If Montana State can score 43 points in three quarters against you, the ones with the explosive offenses will score more. Find some players who want to play. Players on the bench, like Holt (I told you I would say it), certainly couldn't do any worse than what is currently out there.

As for the offense, how did BarneyBall become so predictable? Draw play left, draw play right, throw, then punt (for an average of 29 yards, mind you), except when Hoffman is in there, then its power it left, power it right, throw, then punt. Nothing is innovative anymore, hence nothing is exciting anymore.

Final thought, why punt when you're down 20 with 6 minutes left? Did you really think your defense was going to hold them?

Sometimes I catch myself thinking the same thing as when I'm watching the Blazers. Are we really trying to win the game?

Here is the good news. At the end of next month the women begin playing basketball; the men begin playing the next week.
