Big Sky Play Begins For Men's Basketball This Saturday

With the news saying Saturday is going to be snowy, how bad does it have to be outside for the game to get canceled? Anybody remember weather causing a postponement in the past?

I'm asking because, I NEED TO SEE A GAME THIS WEEKEND! I recently heard that NBA games are pretty much always played as long as the opposing team can get into town. I hope the same goes for the Viks.

With the airport open, I think the only thing that would cancel the game would be some sort of a power outage.

Who will win? does UM have a chance after last year's beatdown in Missoula? I doubt anyone forgot about that game? I think they will want revenge for that game more so than any game all year! LOL

Do you have a comparison article like you do on the bigskyfans site?

Sagarin Ratings has PSU at 159 and WSU at 162....both of us have a big game on Sat, Weber at Utah, PSU at UM.

Portland State's men's basketball game with Montana, scheduled for tonight at 7 p.m., will go on as scheduled. Teams and officials are in town and able to compete.

Fans are encouraged to use their best judgement when deciding whether to attend the game and not take any unnecessary risks. The game will air on AM 910 KTRO and www.am910ktro.com.

Sunday's women's game against Manhattan at 2 p.m. is also scheduled to be played.

PSU - 72, Montana - 45

1st half defense is the best the Viks have played all year. 2nd half was ugly for both teams, too many turnovers, etc. Nice job Viks!!!!!!!!!

Vikings Rout Grizzlies, 72-45, in Big Sky Opener

http://www.goviks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?temp_site=NO&DB_OEM_ID=19300&ATCLID=3636300

Portland, OR - The Portland State Vikings picked up where they left off last season, opening their Big Sky Conference schedule with a 72-45 win over the Montana Grizzlies at the Stott Center.

The Vikings maintained four winning streaks in the process as they improved to 8-3 on the season. PSU has now won 15 straight overall against Big Sky opponents, 15 straight at home overall, and 14 straight Big Sky games at home. The Vikings have also defeated Montana four straight times.

PSU jumped to leads to 10-0, 17-2 and 22-4 and the Grizzlies, picked to place second in the Big Sky in preseason polls, never seriously threatened.

The Vikings forced 16 Montana turnovers in the first half as they built a 36-23 lead. Then a 25-6 run midway through the second half pushed the lead to as many as 29 points.

Sophomore forward Phil Nelson led a balanced PSU effort with a game-high 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Junior forward Julius Thomas may have played his best game as a Viking scoring 14 points with a career-high tying 10 rebounds.

Guards Andre Murray and Jeremiah Dominguez scored 10 points each for the Vikings.

PSU overcame 23 turnovers by shooting a solid .510 from the field, .500 from three-point range and .786 at the line.

Montana was bad all the way around, shooting .348 from the field, commiting 23 turnovers and getting outrebounded 34-25 in the game. The Griz entered the game giving up the fewest turnovers of any team in the Big Sky (12.8 per game).

Anthony Johnson had a 15 points to lead Montana, now 6-6 on the season.

GAME NOTES: The loss ended a brief two-game losing streak for the Vikings... a major snowstorm in the Portland area limited attendance to just 415, the smallest ever for a PSU Big Sky home game... Andre Murray is shooting 29-43 in the last five games (.674)... the Vikings play three straight non-conference road games before returning to Big Sky play in January... PSU travels to eighth-ranked Gonzaga on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. game on Fox Sports Net.

The weather made me realize just how far parking structure 3 is from the Stott Center. Felt like the Iditarod on the way back to the car.

What an ugly game. Refs were terrible on both sides of the ball. Free throw shooting is a legit concern. Great team defense at times tonight. Quick hands and good help defense caused a lot of turnovers for UM.

Had we played well, this could have been a really bad loss for UM. We have much to work on, but hey, we're 1-0 in conference.

There was a car with "Go Vikings' carved into the frozen snow on the rear going north on I-5 after the game. Made the slippery drive not so bad. :-)

So does UM suck again and overrated by the coaches and media again or is PSU just that good and made em look bad?

When the score was 22-4 I was beginning to wonder...

Off the subject but:
I can't wait for PSU/WSU games, last year Weber was the only team that gave PSU any competition, PSU won in Portland 76-73, and lost in Ogden 73-68.

I think Weber will compete for the title this year but I think our team next year will be even better than this year. We will lose 2 seniors (1 starter) for next year, and all 5 bigs will be back. This year here is the Weber lineup:

5-Jr Steve Panos
4-Fr Kyle Bullinger
3-Jr Nick Hansen
2-Sr Kellen McCoy
1-Fr Damian Lillard

I'd have to see UM with their starting point guard to comment. However, we did turn the ball over 21 times and still won by nearly 30 points.

I'm inclined to think that UM may in fact be a little bit overrated.

LOOOOOOL!!! That sounds really funny when you put it that way!!

For how short the "bigs" are, I was pretty impressed with how they played. A 32 - 10 advantage in points in the paint.

Just imagine if the Blazers can get Oden to take the ball strong to the hoop like Julius Thomas has been...
