Montana vs Portland State - Thread

And now for Montana's home game in Hillsboro. I hope the Griz's road woes continue.

you might be on to something. their lone road victory is against downy-soft UNC. couple that with the fact they like to put the ball on the ground and PSU has a really strong rushing attack, the vikes have a real shot at winning this game. seems to me PSU put a bigger whoopin on ISU at hillsboro than UM did in wagriz.

I was not aware that Montana was having a home game in Hillsboro. Granted, the Griz will probably have more fans at Hillsboro the the Vikings, but it is still a road game for Montana. Can not agree that the road woes will continue. With a new coaching staff, the Griz early games were what they were, a learning experience. Things appear to have been learned and the steamrolling of years past appears to be in place for them.

Portland State Vikings making changes for the better

Put two years of recruiting with Burton and there may not be a team to stop you. It would be nice if you could beat the Griz this weekend, but I think you are overmatched at this point.

Portland State won the game tonight.....it just didn't show on the scoreboard. Your team played well, and they should be proud of their efforts in spite of the end result. You have a special player in #10. We are happy to come away with the win, of course, but there is no way anyone in Griz Nation can be happy with the way we played tonight.

Best of luck to the Vikings in their remaining games.

Well, that was an interesting game.

PSU tried to throw away the game in the 4th., then the Griz said "It's OK, we'll give you a free do-over", then UM pulled the ball away at the last second á la Lucy.

By the way, it mentions Shoemaker injuring his leg. What actually happened is that he broke it. Yikes. End of season for him.

Defense played tough. We turn it over three times inside of our own 35 and Montana only comes away with 6 points. Another positive was the final drive for the Viks. Everyone in the stadium knows you aren't throwing and you still go 95 yards and end up with a td.

My one negative- I know they don't really have a choice in the location, but please get me back to PGE Park as soon as possible. With only 6,500 people, it really felt like there were 45,000. They were completely overwhelmed at the entrance, food and drinks, parking, and the restrooms. Both games I've had someone in my reserved seats who had to be asked repeatedly before they would let us sit there. $8 to park.

Call me Pollyanna, but I left the game both mad and optimistic. Mad at the way the Vikings loss, but optimistic about Coach Burton and direction of the Viking program:

Turnovers hurt Vikings' bid at Hillsboro Stadium

Ugh. What a way to lose.

Seven fumbles won't win you a game. That missed field goal was really close, in fact I thought that it slipped in the left upright, but it didn't and turned out to be huge.

On the bright side, we pretty much dominated the football game and gave it away. That last TD drive by us was great to watch. You know we're going to run on you and you just can't stop it. It reminded me of our rushing game from years past.

BSC refs are an interesting lot. What was the deal on that play for UM in the 2nd half where they had two penalties, we declined one, but UM ended getting not being penalized any yardage? It was first and ten, they gained two yards, had two penalties, but ended up with a 2nd and 8? Oh, and the refs also awarded a time out to Northern Colorado in the 2nd half.

That injury to Shoemaker hurts. Pretty strong kid to be pumping up the crowd while being carted off the field with a broken leg.

Portland State fans your team did everything to win this game and just came up short on the points. You out played the GRIZ all game and have nothing to hang your heads about. I think the future looks great for Vikings and your new coach is doing a fine job. Good Luck in the rest of your season.

GO GRIZ ! ! !

That ending was depressing, especially since we had the 95-yard drive to get the go-ahead score. I really thought that earlier FG went in; looked like it slipped through the uprights from where I was, and it turned out to be huge, as has been said already.

We won the game, but gave it all away when it really counted. However, this matchup next year will be interesting.

I dvr'd the game. That FG was way wide. Hard to tell from the stands, but very wide left on the camera.

How bout that Nevin Lewis kid with a 92 yard Kick Return TD! I know he's only a true sophmore, but I'd like to see him get some catches in the games as a wideout. I've only seen him play once on TV so far and that was against ASU.
