Montana

Montana's Mario Dunn said something to Williams, grabbed his jersey like he was going to hit him, and then both teams stepped in to break it up. Montana's coach ran Mario off the floor. I think he might have been pissed about losing and fouling out. No punches were thrown, that I could see, and I was about 20' from it. It was a little bush league on Dunn's part. Not sure what the league will do. Probably nothing....., it's Montana, their darling.

Dunn wasn't involved.

From "grizzlyjournal" on eGriz who watched a video replay of the incident:

"Just watched a video of the incident in the postgame lineup. Walter Wright had his hand out, ready to shake the hand of a much taller player (read somewhere else it was Juwan Williams) when the WSU player hit Wright hard with two open palms in WW's chest, then grabbed Wright's jersey while yelling at him. Based on my view, Wright was caught totally off guard, as was Jack Lopez, directly behind Wright. A Weber player then immediately tried to grab the WSU player who had grabbed, and not yet let go, of Wright. Split second later, there was Travis DeCuire, after the Weber player, with an aggressive move to move him back. Video ended there. No doubt that Wright was caught totally off guard by the blows."

It'll be interesting to see the replay if it's on bigskytv in a few days.

Glad the coaches and other players were able to get everyone separated so there were no punches thrown.

Congrats on the win. Wish we got you guys here in Missoula this year, but that's the way this new big sky schedule goes I guess. EWU is probably wishing they got us in Cheney and you guys wishing you got EWU in Ogden. Hate the unbalanced scheduling like that where two big rivals like the Griz and Weber might only play each other 1 time in a year.

It could have been WW, but I thought that I saw #1 on the jersey of the player the coach was pushing off the floor. It would make sense if it was WW, he is the one who spit on Williams while he was sitting on the bench. Those refs were not aware of a lot of stuff that was happening in that game. You would think that the BSC would want their best guys for a game like that. Maybe they were the best.

I don't know what the scuffle was all about and who was to blame, but Rahe and Decuire (sp?) were steaming hot about it. There was a lot of emotion in the game, rivalry games are like that.

I and many Wildcat fans will agree with you on the unbalanced schedule, you have 3 teams ( Weber, UM, EWU ) who are arguably the best 3 overall teams in the conference, and they play each other once in the reg season

I agree that is a shame that the goofy reg season schedule does this to the top 3 teams. I would be in favor of everyone playing each other twice and eliminating a tourney at the end of the season. Ijust don't buy the arguement that we want to give everyone a post season opportunity. If they want a post season, they can earn it. I love pkaying the Grizz twice every year. What a rivalry! I am very happy and proud of our guys tonight but I also feel your pain, Grizzland. We have felt the sting at the end of the season a few times too and it's not very fun.
See ya'all in the BSC championship game.
GOOOOOO WILDCATS!!

The atmosphere at the game was amazing, close to 9,000 in attendance and everyone of them knew what was at stake. Big, loud and energetic. Fun as crap to watch. Baker was the difference, I want more Baker in the game, the guy is gritty and brings a crapton of energy and passion off the bench. Weber has the better and deeper bench and it showed tonight

That was a great rivalry game.

Just think, if Kriskoviac was still their coach, he would be calling for an end to it all.

Looks to me like both of our teams will be similar next year. They lose Breunig and we lose Bolomboy. They will return an experienced guard line, as will we. The rivalry will continue, unlike what is coming out of the UUs.

It was a great game, but it's not the end of the season. We've got to kick it up from here, get Joel back, and finish it out strong.

GO WILDCATS

A fight appeared to break out as teams shook each other’s hands after the game. Wildcat freshman Juwan Williams grabbed Walter Wright by his jersey in the front and exchanged words. Coaches tried to remedy the situation as soon as they could, but the large group of people in the vicinity made the task difficult.

“I don’t know what happened,” Rahe said of the incident. “I hate it. I’m going to find out what happened. We’ve got a nice rivalry with Montana going, but they’re quality people up there. We’ll find out what happened. If one of our guys did something, they will regret it. That’s not who we are.”

With sole possession of first place, the Wildcats will now head on the road for their final two games of conference play against Idaho and Eastern Washington. (per SE article - Garside's column today)

Noteworthy, mentioned that was Weber State's 1,000th victory as a Division I program.

Well that is fairly clear. Williams must have been frustrated that the officials wouldn't protect him from being spit on by WW, and he was going to let him know how he felt about it. It looks like a push and words. I'm not sure why UM's coach was ushering Dunn off the floor. The clip didn't run far enough to see all the secondary stuff. Randy was pushing one of our guys out of it as well. All in all, it looked like the coaches and the rest of both team's players handled what the refs could not. :thumb: :thumb:

I was hoping that our WSU fans would treat this like we were hosting. Driving to Reno from Ogden is not that big of a deal. Hotel prices are now reasonable and the session ticket prices are not that bad. We had about 40 enthusiastic fans in Florida and it made a lot of difference to the team. I don't see any reason why we can't have a thousand or two in Reno. I've heard all the negative stuff about it, but none of it makes me want to punish myself, my team, or my school because of the sour grapes and envy of 10 of our sister institutions. It is what it is. I still support my team. I'm not going to partake of the same sour grapes that got us to this point. It just doesn't make any common sense to me. :wtf:

The only way I'd want the tournament to be in Reno is if Nevada were still in the Big Sky and won the regular season.

An 8 hour and 7 minute drive (one way) to Reno from Ogden sounds unfavorable to me (if I lived near Ogden), especially for those with jobs and families. The cherry on top for most of us is that every team will be represented in the postseason tournament. I can see why the conference is doing it (need to fill the seats, and the more teams represented, the more likely it will happen), but it really cheapens the regular season and perhaps makes it even less competitive. "F it. We can stand to lose a few. We're going to the conference tournament anyway."

I suppose your post will make me take a step back to see what happens in the first year, before judging it any further. I hope it works out better than the majority of us are expecting. I think the only benefit I see is for those who can make it--it seems like it'd be pretty fun to wear purple, mingling with fans of other teams, sharing in some friendly competition.

Congrats on the win. It was a battle for sure. Weber played physical, tough defense. Griz struggled to respond and get into any rhythm offensively. Credit Weber. Have no major issue with the postgame scuffle. I guess if it was a Griz who shoved a Weber player I'd be annoyed, especially if it happened after a Griz win. Stupid and selfish move. But, this is a rivalry and I like the intensity.

Once again, your crowd was great. Dee Event Center is a great place to watch a game. Too bad the Tournament won't be played there. The Dee and your crowd always show well on TV. Hopefully some of you make it to Reno. 8 drive is doable I guess. 14 hours from Missoula...no thanks. I was in Reno last month for work, first and hopefully last visit.

Hope to see ya'll in the championship.

Go Griz.

I've been watching our rivalry with Montana for nearly 50 years. There have been a lot of great players and games. I believe that Montana has made Weber better and that Weber has made Montana better. The competition has been great. I hope that the rivalry continues on for ever. :notworthy:

I hope that we do meet again in the tournament championship game. :thumb:

Great game and atmosphere. I am still trying to recover from Saturday night. What a game!! That was a true old-fashioned battle. I hate how Weber only gets to play three of the additional top four once this season. I hate the new Sky. I'm all for a 22 game conference schedule and a winner take all approach.
