MSU running back Davis ruled ineligible by NCAA

MSU running back O. Davis was declared ineligible by the NCAA. Not sure what to make of it, there is no news as to why and what will happen, possible suspension or worse. Its never good to have one of your star players be declared ineligible by the NCAA, looks bad for the program and the player. MSU is appealing, but MSU is not Auburn so we will see how it goes.

Davis was a stud at MSU and would hurt them next year if he can't play, but no one knows what happened or will happen at this point. Rumor has it that they are getting a pretty good drop down FBS running back coming next year so this may not be too bad of news for MSU.

Yes, it's a grade thing. Rumor has it that had we even beaten NDSU and went on to play you guys in the playoffs, chances are that he might not have been eligible for that game.

As for the stud transfer RB, we are getting Dontravious Robinson from Nebraska. He is already committed and enrolled at MSU. He is actually the high school teammate of our QB Denarious McGhee, when they played together for Trinity High School in Euless, TX. In 2008 when Robinson and McGhee were starring for Trinity HS, most of that season Trinity spent time as the number one ranked high school team in the nation. Robinson went off to Nebraska, but supposedly NU has pretty big stable of great backs so it was gonna be hard for Robinson to see much time on the field. The kid is also married, and he & his wife had a baby, which passed away just months after being born. I guess it took quite a toll on Robinson and his studies/football. So his old high school teammate McGhee convinced him to come to MSU. Should be a great kid to have on the team!

Hes Back, NCAA reinstated Davis :D

Good news for MSU, glad he's able to get back into school/on the field.

Although, I will call your Dontravius Robinson and Orenzo Davis, and raise you a Demtrius Bronson and Mario Brown! :thumb:

Dont forget we still have Palmer, Kirk and Sloan at RB,

I would argue the "best reciever corp" comment, but its such a subjective statement thats it not really worth it. I really do feel we are better off with McGhee and Apkla, Bleskin, Gilbert, Sewing, Carter ... than you are with BLM and Kaufman, Edwards, Herd ...

Defense will be the big question for both teams next year IMO

Only 8 months to wait till we find out

Meh, agree to disagree.

No one in FCS was able to cover Kaufman this year. That includes everyone in the Big Sky, and the best two teams in the CAA. He has a rare combination of speed, size, and raw determination that few players possess. And he was only a Sophomore. The only way he won't be a 1st Team BSC selection next season is if he gets hurt.

Edwards and Herd are just as good as anyone MSU has, or anyone else in the conference for that matter.

But the real reason I think our receiving corp will be the best in the Big Sky this coming season is because of the development of our young TE's. We had two true Freshman playing TE last season that showed a lot of promise and also got an awful lot of playing experience. At 6-4 to 6-6, one of these guys could be the next Overbay. We also have another 6-5 TE coming in the fall.

I don't think there is any way Montana State can claim better anyone better than Kaufman. I seriously think he may be talked of as the best receiver in the history of the Big Sky when his career is over. He is a definitive pro prospect with the ruthless combination of size, speed, and hands.

You might be able to argue that as a corps, someone at the FCS level may be better... but I'd take Kaufman as the single best receiver at this level. He's like Karstetter for WSU (all Pac-10 3rd team) but with a little more size and much better speed.

I think that as a whole group MSU returns the deepest group of receivers and probably running backs. However EWU returns what may be the best offensive line and if Renard plays a whole season like he did in the playoffs then probably the best defensive line. I do think that MSU will probably be more committed to the running game within the framework of their offense.

As far as the favorite next year to win the conference, I think there are legitimately four or five teams that that will push for the conference championship

1) EWU - returning national champs, best offensive defensive lines, Renard Williams (beast), solid team overall.
2) UM - In their losses last year they averaged 4 turnovers and discovered they could run the ball too late in the season to do any good. I really like their returning defense and especially their secondary. All depends on their QB, but that team is loaded with talent.
3) MSU - return most of their offense less 3 starters. While their offensive line wore down last year with all the injuries (we lost about 20lbs across the board with our lineup), we should be a lot stronger at the OG and Center positions. How we replace our LT which will be interesting but Coach Mac is one of best OL coaches in the conference. Where MSU will have a lot of questions is at the safety position which in the pass happy Big Sky is not a good place to be unproven.

Sac State, UNC, Weber, NAU can step up and beat anybody if your not ready. Sac State may have turned the corner from last year.

No arguments there.
