MSU vs WEBER

This week the Cats face off against the bcats of Montana State. What can we expect from this game? What does Weber need to improve on?

I think Weber should look a lot better on Sat than they were two years ago. Thank goodness for Cam!! Where is Barnes? Yes, the bcats defense is legit, and will cause some serious problems for the Cats, but their offense is, for lack of a better word, totally inept. They have been looking better, but UNC is only a shadow of the team that beat San Diego a couple of weeks ago (really, how good is San Diego?). UNC, to bad for the Bears, they were really looking better, has had some devestating injuries. Granted, Weber has been afflicted by the injury bug too, but Weber has steadily become deeper and deeper the past couple of seasons. UNC is not Weber State. Their offense is perhaps the worst in the Big Sky right now. Might change in a couple weeks. As players get healty or gain experience.

Weber's defense needs to improve in two areas. 1. Put pressure on QB, and limit the running game. Weber has struggled against the run this year, bad tackeling has contributed to good running, stop being overly concerned with stripping the ball or getting a good hit, just bring the ball handler down. Has the defense total abadoned the blitz? 2. Zone coverage is terrible. Man to Man has been adequate, but still needs some work. However, the Zone coverage is awful! The LB's need to do a better job of pursuit, but for their youth and inexperience they have been somewhat of a surprise. With this being said, I really think the defense is getting better, and by the end of the season will be better than last year.

I think Weber wins this game, but its going to be tough. Weber and MSU have developed a pretty good rivalry over the past 40 odd years or so, and we, yes respect one another, but definitely hate losing to one another. I guarantee that MSU will bring at least 1000 fans to the game (maybe they are coming for General Conference too! LOOOOL), so I hope our fans come out, and are much louder than their contingent.

I agree. One of the biggest problems I've seen the past two weeks has been allowing big pass plays. Granted, it was mainly just in the 1st quarter against Idaho St. But against Portland St, Hubel to Fry and Woods killed us. Perhaps the zone is part of the problem, but I definitely agree that lack of pressure on the QB is a big part of the problem. At least Montana St doesn't appear to have much of a passing attack. Only 173 passing yards last week vs. N Colorado, and 192 per game on the year.

Nice analysis, N.O.C.!

Our opponents have figured out that the inexperienced Wildcat linebacking corps is our weak link, and have attempted to exploit it. This places even more pressure on the D-Line and the defensive secondary.

The great news is that we have talented linebackers who are improving in every game.

Wyoming and CSU QB's were hurried at best, at least there was some pressure.....but the one thing I see is that we sorely miss Big Sky Pre-Season All Conference #95 EASTMAN out there. One player does not make the team, but he definitely has a PRESENCE when he is on the field. He gets the rest of the DL in a frenzy....and they feed off each other. The cheap shot at CSU was clearly that, a cheap shot.....that took him out for a few games. You can beat me, but don't cheat me....

Eastman will be back by Sac. State, in time for Montana and others and the play offs. He'll be braced up, but he'll be back with a vengeance. GO WILDCATS

Godspeed the BEAST'S recovery!

Just a couple of notes. UNC's defense is pretty much intact, the injuries have affected their offense which is pretty bad right now. I think the Bobcat Offense will suprise some (including Bobcat fans) this year. Our offense scored more on UNC than EWU did.

On the otherside of the ball its another story, without a doubt you guys are the class of the BSC on Offense but our defense isnt too shaby either. It would help if you guys would bring Barns back for another try, (god I loved that guy) ;)

Any way i know you are kinda banged up and missing a few studs but I expect a tough game. If MSU plays good mistake free ball and we get a couple of TO's we can win.

Should be a good game and I know you have a good coach and a first class bunch of fans.

Thanks for the compliments, cats2506! I am a fan of "Sunshine" on your offense, and I also have a healthy respect for your D. Any team would be foolish to overlook your defense.

I am very interested to see how our offense will match up with your defense, and if our defense can avoid "surprises" from your offense.

P.S. Barnes ain't comin' back. We sent him on a ten year mission to Antarctica.

I recorded the MSU game on altitude. I'm going to analyze the defensive side of the game tonight. I think I need psychiatric help.

Keep in mind that after half, we were up by 17 and the play calling went real conservative

Ash's take: "I knew that we weren't very effective in the third quarter (on offense) ... but we weren't as good in the third quarter as we need to be. That's partly on me. I may have gotten a little conservative because things were going so well and the defense was playing so well. We've got to come out a little tougher in the second half."

I hear Barnes is doing a miraculous job with the Penguins.

He didn't have that bad of a game two years ago, he did toss two TDs, if you were a Bobcat fan! Hell, he was MSU's offense two years ago. If he hadn't had played the final score would have been 3-0.

Howdy southern Cats from the northern Cats! What a great game this is shaping up to be! Our defense is stout, and pretty darn healthy, with the exception of DE Brad Smith. Our secondary, which had troubles the first two games, is now back in tact with Cory Nichol and Kevin Retoriano back in the lineup. We will bring it on defense!

Offensively, we may not be as "inept" as someone else put it. Yes, we have not lit it up, but that has never been MSU's style under any coach or QB. We have always pretty much relied on our defense wearing teams down and then scoring just enough to win. Last weekend against UNC, we really let off the throttle in the second half after building a 17-0 lead at half. Coach Ash really felt no need to open the playbook too much in the second half, as he felt we really were going to see no threat from UNC. No need to show other Big Sky teams too much if you don't have to. Believe me, we have the tools the score. We just haven't clicked yet.

This should be an epic battle - the home team has lost the game the last couple years, so hopefully we can continue that trend. No doubt - it will take everything we have to win this game, as Weber has built a powerhouse and is now among the best of the Big Sky. Good luck this weekend, purple fans, but not too much!!

Just a side note that really doesn't mean much. Montana St is now ranked 25th in the coaches poll, which means Saturday's match up will be between two nationally ranked teams. Should be a good one. Go Cats! WildCats, that is.

I think Kaimikaua is settling in nicely at Naks' position. I like the fact the the Wildcat offense hasn't peaked yet. I think they take a major step forward this weekend. The Bobcat offense better be ready to score or its going to be a long day for them.

Howdy, neighbor. Welcome!

Im still not sure whats going to happen, opening elk hunt is this weekend, but I havent been feeling all that well these last 2 days, if I start to feel better, I think I'll go elk hunting, but if not, im going to bundle up and come support my Wildcats. BYU plays host to Utah State on friday and Utah has a bye, we have a chance for a packed stadium, and it would be great if we could get 10k+. I hope there are alot of Bobcat fans at the game, and I hope the game turns out to be a great game. (especially for us Wildcats).

This is where our season really starts to get difficult, with us being home to MSU and at Eastern Washington next weekend, The Wildcats need to come out of the gates fast, and play Wildcat football for all 4 qrts.

GO WILDCATS
