My Experiences at SUU

I have been to 5 games played in Cedar City, including the past two games. I am very impressed with many aspects of their game day atmosphere. They are leaps and bounds ahead of us in that regard. They do it right. They have cool and interesting in game promotions and games. There was never a dull moment down there. They have decent music all the time, and they keep the crowd in engaged. They do not have SATOG, no annoying music that is played at wrong times, not three different sound sources going at the same time (PA speaker, band, and music). Our in game product is below average. Our speaker system is garbage. In game promotions are stale and mundane. There needs to be an overhaul next year with in game promotions, games, music, etc.

SUU does it right, and it isn't hard to see why they average more fans a game than us, even with a 1-8 record. :notworthy:

I agree that SUU has done a good job building the game experience. The community buys into the program and they are aware that it is game day. All the hotels and restaurants knew it was rivalry week. In Ogden, most people don't even know whether there is a game or not.

I believe the community support is partly because of the nature of the campus (residential versus commuter). But I know the former SUU AD worked very hard to build the culture that they have and the community supports it heart and soul. This year has been a bitter pill for the SUU supporters and it was evident that some of the fans didn't show up in force on the cold evening. This game should have been played at noon.

Weber could learn a few things about managing the game experience. Not sure the attendance is a direct correlation given that SUU is the only game in town and the students live a few blocks from the stadium. But improving our atmosphere would go along ways to improving our attendance and community support.
