fatwildcat[/color]"]Here is the problem at look ing at the calander. When I was in student leadership, we would get together and plan our activites a month before school started. Often times before we could get a hold of the Basketball programs. I worked in the office that out together the 5$ planner that some WSU students buy every year. We would try to get those ready about a month before the Spring semester ended. When we would call the athetic program they would ho and hum about getting us all of the teams scheduals. We would often times have to call the coaches directly. And that was only for the Fall sports, most of the Spring sports have not finished there scheduals yet, because most of those teams are still playing. Student leadership has suffered the last year, Pete was great, he was all over trying to get folks to different stuff. I do not know if that was because of his involovement in the purple pak the year before, or what.

The only problem I have with this excuse (and it is a valid excuse) is if you look at the 2 main sports you are trying not to interfer with, 1. football, but you can plan on not saturday activities in the fall. 2, basketball schedule you can pretty much never go wrong to assume the home games will be on a Thursday or Saturday. So you don't schedule anything on those nights, so even if the men's team is away the women's team should be home playing.

I couldn't tell you about volleyball or any of the other sports, but if they want to be included they need to make the effort more than the 2 big sports.

Those are great points, and I do agree that there needs to be an effort to get out to the other sports. I am the first to admit that I am the awful about that. The big two are great, and I will watch anything that has to do with sports, so I have no reason for not going. I need to get out to those events. I talked to coach Al Givens, the volleyball coach, and he is a great guy.

It is hard not to plan things of Saturday night at a commuter school. It is not like 15,000 of the students that live on campus, or within two or three miles of the school. If they want to get students out to stuff they have to plan them on Saturdays. (Now if they should be trying as hard as they are to get students to things as they do is a different matter). Later start times for activities is one solution, if you go to the game you get in free at the party. But I do agree that there needs to be a meeting point half way. Athletics needs to be more open to SBO's and plannig committies, and those two orginazations need to be more mindful about what the athetic program may be doing. I think that we can all agree that the University needs to stop under cutting there small school involved population.

Maybe instead of thinking what thes student body could be dong for the athletic dept (coming to the games, etc) we should think of what athletics can do for the student body. (kind of the same idea as what kennedy said) Anyway, if the community sees that wsu hoops and football and the other sports are cool and care about them, then maybe the community will start caring about athletics at WSU.
Just a thought.

What a great tough game. It was pretty hairy in the 1st half but the team rallied and pulled out a big time win. And I told Bengalhater, that is the kind of crowd we need every game. I think everyone had a great time, the place was loud, rocking and you students kept the intensity going. Props to the players, Coach Rahe, the PurplePak and got to give credit to the marketing department, this was more than a game it was an event there were families in the stands and they were pumped.
