Pump the brakes on this talk... Coach Best is a damn fine coach who is dealing with a lot at the moment. He deserves support, as does the whole team. Who the fuck are we, as fans, to apply more pressure when they’re already feeling enough?

The coaching issues I’m seeing are not related to Best at all. I feel like both offense and defense have regressed a bunch with the new coordinators. Even then, I think it’s an issue of players not quite understanding their roles, not bad schematics. And the biggest issue of all is actually the players... way too many guys getting hurt and missing time. Some bad luck, certainly, but likely a bit of softness in there as well. We seem to be decimated by injuries every single year, and usually it starts within a couple weeks.

Calling these players soft is bullshit. The biggest, baddest dudes get injured. Have you considered that decisions to play are likely out of the players control? I have not seen any "softness" in the way these guys play.

The $1,000,000,000.00 ???? is why is this team and past teams so injury prone. Is it to much practice time, is it the strength coach, is it nutrition, is it facilities what exactly is it ??? Seems we have a mash unit every year. Maybe other teams are the same and I just don't follow them enough. We have the grad transfer kid here from UW...injured and i cant see where he was inured at UW.

Eastern getting curb stomped by Sac State & FOLDING at Jax State shows me there’s a problem! Best didn’t hire Schmedding guys... and those juniors/seniors out there aren’t his either, but those coordinators sure are!

Also, Best didn’t bring that trophy back to Cheney like Baldwin did....He doesn’t get a pass because he lost to NDSU in the title game! NDSU is tough, I get it... but they were also tough in 2010 and Baldwin beat em! In 2010 the CAA was the “conference to beat” and Baldwin found a way to rally the troops in the 2nd half against Delaware, and bring Eastern its first D1 national championship. I’m tired of the excuses and I’m just voicing my opinion; he’s got to PROVE that he can lead this team & right now he’s 1-4 against D1 competition with 3 terrible, embarrassing losses to very beatable FCS teams.

Of course I want Best to win, but....
2017 - No Playoffs.
2018 - Historic season, even after losing All-American Qb Gage Gubrud.
2019 - Starting off a 12 game season 2-4.

Again, if this team doesn’t win at least 6 games, he’s on the hot seat imo.

He is 18-11 against D-1 competition. That is including FBS losses. The last thing we need is to start throwing out coaches left and right and create inconsistency. Montana taught us how that can ruin an era.

I feel bad. I've raised doubts about various aspects of the team from fall camp on by calling out the lack of productivity of the RB's behind Merritt and Custer during scrimmages, the lack of QB effectiveness, the OC's stats at CWU and the fact he takes his foot off the gas with leads and once the season began the ineffectiveness of nearly all aspects of the defense and offense. What I might call a "malaise".

Best is our guy, he's better than what we are seeing on the field. Not sure he's seen this before with all the changes in the assistants, so many seniors graduating and the aftermath of a Natty run. Want to believe he will master it and ever after be a GREAT HC. The OC and DC are a completely different matter IMO. We are not disinterested people who will stand by and watch this train wreck continue and in the vacuum of non-information look to see changes made. I've got no axe to grind about Shoemaker, thought he was a good hire but historical stats look pretty accurate. Ena was a convenient hire and I "hoped" he was the driving force behind the defensive improvement last year. Evidently not. Anyway, everything to date is water under the bridge. We know everyone is working hard and no one likes losing. Will be watching, cheering, cussing and hoping this turns around.

I didn’t attribute all of the problems to softness, but you can’t seriously believe this is just bad luck—- game after game, season after season. At some point, you’ve got to come to the conclusion something systemic is wrong that causes Eastern to be dealing with catastrophic numbers of injuries at all times. Is it the training staff? Their job is to keep guys on the field. Is it something going on at practice? I don’t know if it’s an easy answer. But if you don’t think some players make due at 80% while others don’t, you’re fooling yourself.

I am a loyal fan and alumni and I support Coach Best. We have had some injuries on defense that have hurt us but our secondary is terrible. I played O-line in college and high school and I know what bad secondary looks like. Our secondary is probably the worst in the Big Sky. Any team with a semi-decent QB will pick us apart. Our problem is with our talent and coaching in the secondary and we will continue to be a shit show until we correct it. I will continue to support my EAGS and lets get our defense fixed.

Your snarky attitude doesn’t change the facts in my post. Best better make some changes and get this team into gear because even your snarky attitude won’t save Eag nation the embarrassment of losing to a rival, or not making the playoffs. If Best can’t get the job done on a consistent basis, that means he’s not the man for the job. All those emotions & sassy comments have no place in football.
