Northern Colorado: averaging 11 made 3s per game so far (at 39% shooting from out there). Some impressive wins, some interesting "moral victories," and a loss to Gardner Webb. Losing by 24 to Texas (who is virtually always athletic) kind of tells the story... don't let 'em breathe from the arc.
Vikings started hot and got up by as much as 21 of 22 pts in the first half. The Bears came back and were 2 pts down late in the 2nd half. Portland State had just enough in the tank to prevail. Good start to Conference play against a good Northern Colorado team. Go Viks!!!
With the system Portland State runs, that hot start was destined to get evened out a bit. Shooting percentages tend to find their level for both teams. One wonders why that has to include as many 3-footers as it did for Portland State.
What PSU did was stay in the heads of the UNC bombers. That brought the win.
Now... free throws? At least Boo Boo hit those late ones.
Psu system is designed to break a team the perfect example was the first 15 minutes of the UNC game. PSU is healthy we are going to give teams trouble With a healthy roster. I’m excited for the rest of the league schedule
- How many times over the years have we seen PSU teams jump to a >20 point lead only to see it evaporate in the second half and lose? Nice to see us get it done in crunch time. Three blocks on the defensive end in the final minute and a couple of big free throws by Boo Boo to get the win.
- Great perimeter defense keeping the best 3-point shooting team in the conference at under 22% for the game. I thought UNC did a good job as well. When was the last time we saw us only attempt a single three pointer in the second half?
- Hauser had me a little concerned coming up limping with knee pain. Good to see him get back in the game. I hope everything is alright.
- Free throw. I know we only took 11, but gawd, 36% isn’t going to get it done.
- On to Monday against what looks to be a pretty decent Southern Utah squad.
UP big against UP, Sal gets hurt. we lose. Up big against UNC, Sal gets in foul trouble, game close. UCSB Sal fouls out in 10 mins, we lose. Me thinks we need some BIG help. :+1:
