Name of Sac State / Cal Poly Game?

Anyone know the history of the Cal Poly/Sac State football series?

And the name of the game?

Wikipedia states that the game is called the

Green and Gold Game

First played in 1967 with Cal Poly ahead in the win column 16-15 all time.

There is no trophy listed for the Green and Gold Game like the Causeway Carriage for the Causeway Classic with UC Davis and Sac State
or the Golden Horseshoe awarded to the winner of the Cal Poly / UC Davis game called the Battle for the Golden Horseshoe

Curious if the Cal Poly / Sac State game will be marketed as the 32nd annual Green and Gold Game and if the old traditions (and maybe some new ones) will be promoted. Will be great to hold a regional rivalry game once a year at Hornet Stadium instead of just once every other year with Davis coming to Sac.

Wonder if there are plans being put in place between Sac State and Cal Poly to amp up the annual game to drive up ticket sales and renewed interest in the game in general.

And, again , wonder if the game will be called the Green and Gold Game
or some other name?
And might there be a perpetual trophy?
 
i dont know the exact numbers but i believe cal poly has one more win in the series. I could of course be way off but for some reason i remember a few years back thinking the series was tied and that last game was for the lead.
 
Yeah they lead the series by one. Pretty competitive series considering much of the D2 days they gave scholarships and we didn't. Glad to see them in the same league and back on the schedule every year, good regional interest game, doesn't create anywhere near the local interest that the Causeway does but at least they have some name recognition (sorry Weber St!). This game has drawn some good gates at Hornet Stadium, a lot of Poly alumni around and a lot of people have connections with both schools. The only downside is the long boring drive from Sac to SLO.
 
I am glad to see Sac State back on the schedule. My wife's family lives in Lodi and we use to see either the Sac State or Davis game up there each year. I am looking forward to doing that each year again. I think making it a trophy game is a great idea to increase interest.
 
It should be something other than horse related. Cow Pollie already has that kind of trophy relationship with ucd and the horse shoe game. I went to the last game in SLO. Everyone thought I was a Pollie fan until they read my shirt. It has to be related to the "true" Green & Gold winner. Thinking....

I was there too, a whole lot of green and gold! Kind of strange having both teams look pretty much the same.
As I recall their uniforms where pretty much like our uniforms the previous year.
 
What about playing off of the cars that share our names? Call it the California Grand Prix or the Mustang-Hornet Nationals or the Hot-Rod Classic or something smart and catchy that I cant think of

Maybe the Golden Piston. Have an actual golden piston (maybe not real gold) as the trophy.

You should probably do some research about the recent success Cal Poly has had before spouting off like this.
 
Good concept with the car theme.

Perhaps the annual

Green and Gold Game
California Classic
Cal State Classic

sponsored perhaps by the California State Automobile Association

along the same lines as the annual Pepsi Causeway Classic

and add to the pre-game festivities with classic car clubs coming out to show their cars in the parking lots.
Might be a lot of Sac and Poly alums with classic cars and people do love to see classic cars.

The trophy is displayed in one of the classic cars (mabye a green and/or gold color car) and presented to the winning team at end of game. Maybe the car is a 1967 model-the year the series between the schools started in football.

In THIS league, there is no such thing as an automatic win. Sure, there are some probable wins like UNC/ISU. But automatic? Not a chance. One key injury or mistimed turnover or busted play and even a game against ISU that most fans bank as a win can turn into a humiliating defeat.

You are correct, the series is 15-16 Cal Poly.
 
The Stinger vs. Stang Showdown or Stinger Stang Showndown

That way we would have the Classic and Showdown.
 
So, the Poly game is getting close. Any chance each school's quarterbacks club or other orginization will be able to make this a trophy or official rivalry game?

I still think it should be the Golden Piston, after the Ford Mustang and AMG Hornet. But there were a lot of good suggestions.
