Names for Head Coach

If Collins is fired or resigns, who is out there as a replacement? I wouldn't mind seeing John Wristen from CSUP get the job. He recruits the state, has won a D2 title and beat UNC and other Sam Houston State when they were ranked in the top 10 FCS polls. He doesn't have UNC ties, but that's okay in my book.

Or Robin Pflugrad who coached Montana a few years ago. Right now he is the head coach at Phoenix College. He did very well with the Griz and if you read their message board a ton of fans want him back in Missoula.

Please do NOT mention Marty English.

I hate to say this, but at this point in our past history, any warm body that is willing to come here would be fine. They couldn't do much worse than what we have now. What we need is just a change for the sake of doing something different and to shake up things up a bit.

CSUP dude would be awesome. I don't want people hired just because they played here. We need a new perspective and a proven winning history.

Anyone who runs an offense unique to UNC. Let's be honest people, UNC is not going to be able to recruit big sky like Montana or other places, Valor Christian has a nicer football field than us. Nottingham looks like a 5a high school field with the track around it.

What we need is an offensive scheme that makes us totally unique in the big sky!

My vote........The Single Wing!! Let's find an old school coach that puts the single wing in place and see where it takes us. If anything at least we will have the coolest offense in ALL FBS and FCS football.

If you have no idea what this is go watch youtube videos online.

Also the spread offense is stupid.

I don't think we are that far off the other Big Sky teams (talent wise) that we need to do what the military academies do. Lets get a competent coach in here first that has been successful as a head coach and lets see what happens. Yes, we don't have the best facilities but we are close to Denver and the only FCS school in the state so we should be recruiting really well in and around Colorado (even if our stadium doesn't look like Montana's or some over priced prep school's stadium).

I agree we are actually a lot better of a team than our record shows...at least on offense. I bet Cal-Polys 3x option even though they are terrible runs like 300+ yards on us next Saturday.

I just hate how the spread is so QB dependent. We also are the most predictable offense ever passing the ball like 100 times a game.

I also looked at past seasons and even though we don't have a rival we are like

6-5 against Idaho State since 2004. We are rivals for who will not get last place in the big sky!

One more thing. I had the chance to meet EC Jr. at a basketball game one time. Even though our record is really bad. He was the nicest person. He spent probably 10 min talking to me and was just a really stand up person.

Jed Stugart

I don't know...he hasn't exactly been lighting it up at Lindenwood.

How are you supposed to light it up in your first season taking over a team that has had 6 wins the last 2 years and this year they had 4. Not bad for inheriting players.
Overall record 93-31
At Sioux Falls 65-17 with 3 postseason appearances

Yes Ernest is a very nice person but coaching this team is another thing. We cannot keep going down this road to oblivion. Things have got to change and maybe EC was just in over his head ? We need someone that can recruit and be able to light a fire under this team (and fans) and has excellent coaching skills. Since he has been here, I have not seen much excitement out of him. I just feel He doesn't bring much to the table !

Just thinking back on what a coach like Joe Glenn or Tad Boyle were able to do. They got both the students and the community to believe in the programs and rally around the teams. It was really fantastic and it would be nice if we could find that again.

Good point, but I'm not sure it looks good on a resume. I'm not against Stugart, and he is a defensive guy, so maybe that would be a good hire.

larryteeling is right though and I forgot about Collins extension. He has a few more years with this one, so it looks like we're stuck with him until '21. If he is still around next year he needs to make major changes with the staff. Get rid of Jones and get someone that coach the defense better. We also need better recruiters. We have four starting true freshmen on the offensive line. Three of which won the job outright in fall camp. That means we had horrible upperclassmen competing for the line. There is no way in hell three freshmen offensive linemen should come in and win jobs like that.

Does anyone know what the buyout is for Collins? Worst case scenario we do a go fund me campaign and chip in lol

UNC is not stuck with Coach Collins until 2021. There is a provision for firing Collins before his contract ends. It is called "Termination Without Cause." If the UNC decides to fire him, he would receive "compensation equal to three months of his salary." Because his 2016 extension was for $150,000 (+/- depending on the incentives that he has reached), UNC would have to pay him $12,500 (about 1/4 of Norton's recent bonus). What a bargain!

I agree with beardevil39 who states that EC is a nice person, who is way over his head. I believe that EC never fully learned HC skills. Because of that, he has not created an environment for growth, either for him, his staff or the players. Like many of us have been saying for the past three years, EC has got to go. Though I am no fan of OC Boyer's strategy to "out-scheme" the D with personnel and play calling, I do believe that if the HC was competent, then he would have directed Boyer to be a better OC. And that can be said for every coach on the staff. Btw, my bet is that he will be fired.

I personally wouldn't mind having Jed Stugart come back to Northern Colorado. His overall win % speaks for itself, he's from Colorado, and he is a great recruiter. He would probably do a good job of keeping local talent in Colorado! I think he would be a great fit for the program. Just an opinion

We have to be done with excuses. We have been down every excuse avenue there is. Please lets find a new way for this program. I have been down every emotion there could be with this team and now I am in the begging mode. I beg for change or there will be no fans left.
