National Signing Day...any surprises, disappointments ahead? Class of 2017 coming up. Meeting for fans, coaches today at 5:30 Stewart Stadium Sky Suites.

Joshua Davis
RB, 5'9" 190 lbs
Alta HS
Sandy, UT

Was waiting to see if this kid would sign with Weber and really excited for it. Could be a big steal. Also had offers from SUU, Air Force, Army, and Idaho. Rated a 3 Star by Scouts and the #2 ranked RB in Utah. Was the 4A State MVP and Utah Gatorade High School Player of the Year.

Definite steal!! Great pick up by Coach Hill and his coaches.

Anyone know if we are going to find out if any of the missionaries signed in 2015 are coming back? I'm sure some are going to be on the team this Fall, but not everyone who originally signed will be back in Wildcat Purple and White!

Did some research this morning. These are the guys who signed who have never been on the roster and, most likely, went on missions.

Tyler Downs OL
Nate Heaps TE
Tyler Hinds S
Zach Hymas QB
Gaige Kartchner LB
Kalisi Moli DL
Carter Nielsen OL
Spencer Niutapuivaha CB/WR
Boogie Sewell DL
Tevita Tauteoli DL/OL

I wouldn't be surprised to see a guy or two from the 2014 class on the roster this Fall either.

Weber had a big day today in my opinion the best class I have seen. Josh Davis and Kaden Jenks are huge gets and I wouldn't be surprised to see both playing this coming year.

Zeke Birch is a big get as well. 3 Star from Scout and top ranked DT in Idaho, 14th ranked in the West. Former Boise St commit. 1st team all-state. Weber has been recruiting him since he was a sophomore.

Coach Hill on the radio

Mentions that Kaden Jenks was getting some serious interest from a high level ACC team

Kaden was getting interest from North Carolina he was suppose to go for a visit last weekend according to a article I read but committed to us thankfully

So this kid George Tarlas is DEFINITELY committed to Weber State...

According to the Deseret News, 11-12 of the new 26 are going to head out on missions right away. Do we have any idea who will be staying next year and who will be going?

I'm a tad worried. Looking at the recruiting lists over the past few years there is a pretty good number of players who are not returning after their missions. It was interesting to me to see only one 2015 signee part of last nights list, but a pleasant surprise seeing a couple of guys from 2014 back with the team. Maybe Coach Hill is bringing the guys back, and red shirting them right away? If so, that isn't the worst idea on earth. Most are going to return early to mid-summer, and aren't ready to go (Weber recruits don't get the preferential treatment of BYU recruits ; i'm kidding. I know nobody does. If you do get a chance to workout it is on your time and if your companion will go). But, fact of the matter, returning missionaries haven't been lifting at a high level for two years. In most cases, they just aren't ready to play. Football players need time to get back into game shape, would need, at least, 6 months.

If this is the case, we should see, next year at this time, a number of guys who signed in 2015 who are enrolled and have re-signed. At least, that is my theory.

That was brought up in the question/answer portion last night, Coach didn't sound too concerned about it and said so far the majority of post mission kids come back to WSU. He also mentioned that it would take compelling circumstances to release a post missionary from his LOI.

He said a large number of 2015 kids are getting home from their missions this summer (which makes sense if they left right after graduating from HS) so they won't be added until they return. He reiterated that most kids do need a year to get back into a top conditioned D1 athlete. The future is bright!

I really like the look of this class. Lots of height and size. It'll be really good for us in the next few years.

I also loved the bits about out-recruiting SUU and how Hill and the staff are really in to building up that rivalry. A true football rivalry is something Weber hasn't had in some time and it's great that the series between Weber and SUU has become as heated as it is.

For us older folks that remember Alfred Pupunu and Jamal Willis, their sons both signed.

Also, Isiah Jackson is the son of Noel Jackson.

Love it! I hope the JRs have the ability and sights set high enough to outshine the SRs.
