Nationally ranked and Perennial winner Montana vs. Hornets

Before this season, I thought that this would be the year that the Hornets would take down the Grizzlies. No sane person could possibly pick us over the Griz.

Griz 38

I really want the team to beat UM, I cant stand their fans and their cockiness (well, not all of their fans, but most). But I guess if the Hornets dominated the conference for as long as them, Hornet fans would be just as cocky.

Unforunately, the Hornets are the underdogs, big time. But who doesnt love an underdog.

Hornets = ?
Griz = 45

GO Hornets, sting the Griz!

Calm the fvck down. I don't think UM will put up that many points. They have been playing down to their opponents this season but nonetheless they are a top team in the nation for a reason.

How Sac State didn't use this to land a PAM sponsorship is beyond me. :P

Hahaha, yeah... You just gotta laugh at this... I remember I was in H.S. when this all went down and I saw this story on ESPN and I was like... THAT'S where I want to go!

Next year? What's going to be different? QB's same, RB's same, LB's same or who? DB's same, WR's same. What will Sperbeck do with basically (DL, OL some changes!) the same cast of characters. Who's in the stable that's going to make a difference? No real recruit is coming here next year!

Even with my name, the thought we have a remote chance of predicting a win is ridiculous. This board went from, wow we're so big and fast in fall camp and everyone being confident of a minimum of 7 wins to we now have 3 tiers of teams in the Big Sky and we're at the top, #1 of the 3rd tier. Can we slice it anymore?

The way we're playing "NO" 2nd tier and 1st tier teams have respect for us. We have to earn that by being competitive and leaving our mark. That's not happening and that's the sign of a program that is improving.

Sorry, just tired of all the Rah Rah!

It's something of a badge of honor.

As I think that over, because nothing lasts forever it's undeniable that at some point we're going to eat a ton of crow. Maybe it's that fear which makes us so hard on coaches.

The stats support that:

Cal Poly:
Griz - W by 12
Sac - L by 10
Spread: 22

Eastern Washington:
Griz - W by 7
Sac - : L by 26
Spread: 33

Portland State:
Griz - W by 32
Sac - W by 17
Spread: 15

TOTAL SPREAD = 70

But we played all three of those in Wa-Griz, and only Eastern Washington was at Hornet Stadium. Who knows?

Most interesting guess on the Griz board: "Griz, quite a bit. Pam State, not so much."

There has been so much criticism about the offense this year and the thinking that they have gotten worse. The fact is the defense is playing about as bad as a high school D. I think that we do have good players on D but our scheme sucks. It doesn't matter if our offense plays flawless the fact is they aren't playing against our D. When we are down by 2 TD's we are done because our O knows our D can't stop them. There is no chance Sac we can get momentum. If we don't get away from the zone and start playing man with safeties over the top and using the athletes we have it is going to be a horrible year.
If we play with same D scheme-
MT-42
Sac-25
If we play man or something different-
MT-24
Sac-32

If you ain't ready by now, you ain't never gonna be ready. Question is, which will this Saturday more closely resemble:

35 points to UNLV
26 points to Cal Poly
26 points to Eastern Washington
39 points to Weber

It'll be 2-3 by Saturday night, and that's the season boys.

Maybe
+ 17 Portland State!

Don't worry about us, seriously you guys need to rest some people so they don't get hurt and focus on the Holloween Party with Weber next week!

There you go! Well... Griz over Portland by 32. Everybody beats Portland this year except Northern Colorado, and everybody beats Northern Colorado except Idaho State, and EVERYBODY AND THEIR UNCLES BEAT IDAHO STATE.

Yeah well you had them at home and we had to beat them in a baseball park! Last time the Griz was in Sac it was a close. Our defense was the better part of the team then, while the offense didn't have much. This year it seems that we have some offensive weapons but the defense is inexperienced and inconsistent. Should be interesting! Hope that a lot of Griz fans are coming down, should be nice weather!

Great... just when our D is less than stellar. Sorry that we'll miss this game - the Sacramento trip this year was for Davis.

I guess winning coach isn't always a classy coach!

The Bum (19) of the half-year is:

A. Falcon Heene's dad.

B. Whoever invented and distributed the rumor that Jon Gruden is a "done deal" to Louisville and Steve Kragthorpe has already told his team he's done. Um, no.

C. Bobby Hauck, Montana coach. Nobody likes a bully, and that's what Hauck has been to an easy target -- the student paper at the school. Hauck has retaliated at a story in the paper, The Kaimin, about an alleged assault of a student by two football players. He has publicly belittled its reporters, refused to answer questions from the paper and the players have followed suit by declining to comment to Kaimin staffers. The paper responded by printing its GameDay section with a focus on the opponent, Cal Poly -- pretty much its only recourse.

Dash answer: C.

Referees chastised for bad calls in Griz-EWU game

Font Size:Default font sizeLarger font sizeOGDEN, Utah - A review of last week's Big Sky Conference football game between Eastern Washington and Montana produced a statement from the league regarding the quality of officiating.

"The officiating in Saturday's EWU-UM game was not up to the standards we expect and require," said Big Sky commissioner Doug Fullerton said.

Several plays were reviewed by the conference, its director of football officials Doug Toole, and independent observers. The league questioned two calls against Eastern Washington in particular.

In the fourth quarter, an Eastern Washington player was called for a late hit out of bounds on a fourth-down play. The penalized player, however, was illegally blocked in the back by a Montana player, propelling him in to Griz fullback Kevin Klaboe out of bounds.

The Grizzlies were called for an illegal formation penalty on the same play, but the late hit call gave UM an automatic first down. That drive culminated in a Chase Reynolds touchdown that held up as the winning points.

Additionally, late in the third quarter Eastern Washington wide receiver Aaron Boyce was called for unsportsmanlike conduct as he slowed down on his way to the end zone. His actions, according to the league, did not warrant the penalty.

Fullerton said the league is examining at least four other plays.

"We're disappointed about the performance, but like the student-athletes and coaches who play the game, we look forward to the next game and getting it right,'' Fullerton added. "I believe our officiating ranks among the best in the Football Championship Subdivision, if not all of Division I football."
