Souers is a solid coach but not someone who will take NAU all the way...
He had to have NAUs all time leading rusher to make the playoffs for the second time in 10 years...

Somewhere.....jacksdude just jumped off of a bridge.

I think Coach Souers has done well with what he has to work with the last few years considering he's playing second fiddle in state to ASU/UofA/bigger west coast colleges and the absolutely horrible, bleeping fan support given from the Flagstaff community. Souers had quite a stretch of mediocre years, though. But I will give him and his staff credit where it is due the last two seasons. A senior dominated defense and Zach Bauman may have had something to do with that, though? They should at least be competitive next year.

I'm neither thrilled nor despondent. It is what it is. It could possibly be better but I don't see a top of the line young FCS coordinator showing up to turn NAU into Alabama/Auburn/Oregon junior anytime soon. I also know it could be a lot worse just by looking around at a few of the other Big Sky Conference teams current situations.

Coach Souers' teams consistently play hard, stay out of trouble and graduate. That seems to be what NAU administration values...and I can support that.

I feel like NAU is content with Souers. He will never win any National Championships for you, but he will keep the program respectable in the Big Sky. That seems to be good enough for administration at NAU...I don't make the decisions. I would like to give someone else a shot. We know what Souers can do and personally I want more. I want NAU to take that next step and consistently compete for Big Sky Championships and consistently make it deep into the playoffs. A playoff game every 10 years is not good enough for NAU in my opinion, but like Jack said...It is what it is :ohno: In the mean time, I will keep supporting NAU no matter who is coaching

Let me start by saying I will also root for this team no matter who is coaching, its my alma mater and I love my school. But this is a big mistake, as Ive said again and again. Settling for mediocrity is what it is. So the guy has the easiest schedule in the big sky, makes it to the first playoff game in ten years(doesnt even coach the game), gets blown out of the skydome in the playoff game- and were supposed to jump up and down and celebrate and give this bozo a new 4 yr. contract? Ridiculous. The fans and school deserve more. Ive been really impressed with campos so far, but his takes her back a few points in my book. This was the perfect time to cut ties with this knucklehead. He is WAY too comfortable with his job. This is competitive D-1 football, he needs to be concerned with winning

After Souers got a one year extinsion last year I was hoping they would replace him this year...

Griz board says he is going to make $185,000 a year...

The problem with replacing coaches on this level is that you cannot get a proven coach for the money because they have moved on for the much bigger money...

Souers keeps students out of trouble and graduates and generally plays 500 ball...

That is what Dick Tomey at AZ did for years before we replaced him with one of the all time bad hires in Machovick....

Perspective is a funny thing. A number of Griz fans (on egriz.com) have been calling for Delaney's ouster. A few fans stated that given Souers' ability to compete given NAU's crappy fan/community support speaks pretty well of him and they believed Souers would be able to do better with top notch tradition and facilities as the U of M would provide. This coming from possibly the hardest to please football fan base in FCS.

Things can possibly get better with a new coach in place. But they can also possibly get worse, at least at first. Mackovic or Lane Kiffin type situation occur @ many schools when coaches come in new and want to instill their "brand" on the program. For example: fixing things that aren't truly broken, clearing house to get their own people in place instead of analyzing what and who worked well previously, decent recruits leaving simply because the coach who recruited them is no longer coaching.
