NAU coming to town

What do we know about NAU this spring?

They beat SUU by one point, I believe it was 34-33. They also lost to EWU 45-13. Last week's game with UI was postponed until the last day of play. When they play us it will be three weeks since they last played. It will be two weeks for us.

Like us, they are starting a young, inexperienced QB.

I'm not sure how valid it might be to draw conclusions from such a limited sample, but giving up 33 points to SUU and 45 to EWU, says a lot about where they were on those days. I expect that we will be able to score more than 18 points on these guys. I also expect us to be able to pressure their young QB into making a few mistakes.

Last year we ran all over these guys. It was a great day for the run game. I expect a good day running the ball again this year and I also expect to see an explosive pass game. This should be a fun game to watch. Mask up and come out to the game, if fans are allowed after all of the maskholes we had at the last game. :coffee:

NAU has proven in the past to be a tough matchup for Weber State. I think it was Coach Hill’s last team he had yet to get a win against in the Big Sky.

NAU doesn’t have their amazing QB this time, and it’s at Ogden. It’s a limited sample, but it looks like the Lumberjack defense has had troubles.

I think the offense gets back on track, and the defense stays hot from the UC Davis game. I am hoping like the second half vs Idaho State that the bench gets some good playing time.

I’ll be attending and will mask up for sure. Didn’t make it to the UC Davis game, so it will be my first taste of Spring Football. It will be nice to see Stewart Stadium again!

Apparently Weber cannot afford to have any more close games cause apparently having a close win against another top 25 team (who moved up in the polls btw) is enough to drop you a spot in the rankings. I dont care if UND has impressive wins (and they do) they started the season ranked way lower than us and should not leapfrog us even after we won. So basically I'm saying Weber has 4 games left and all 4 need to be convincing wins. A lot depends on that cause it could mean the difference in UND coming here or us playing in Grand Forks. The Sioux have a tough matchup this weekend as they take on NDSU.

As for NAU they apparently allow a lot of passing yards. This could be a great game to give Bronson some confidence again. We also have a stable of running backs that all look legit. Weber needs to come out strong and finish strong. I wanna see some sacks and blitzes by the D and i want to see the offense light the scoreboard up!

I feel that, as the season goes on, our win over UCD will become more meaningful. It would be great to be ranked 1 or 2 at the end of the season. That way, you get home field advantage up to the final game. I think that is within our grasp.

After this past weekend's games and byes, we should move back up in the poles. NDSU beat up on UND and UCD curb stomped Poly. The later makes our win against UCD all the more impressive and UND getting knocked off would move us up anyway. JMU had their game Covided, so there may be no movement at the top. However, who really knows. These things can twist in unusual ways.

Frome here on out, we just need to take care of our business and treat all games the same way. We are in control of our own destiny.

Let's go out and do a little curb stomping of our own. Although Jay rarely does that when given the chance. :coffee:

Again Weber gets leapfrogged. NDSU the new number 2 after beating UND. Davis who we beat went up 6 more spots.

So if Davis is good enough to be ranked #15 why do we keep getting passed up in the polls after we beat said #15?

By the way the new #2 has a blowout loss on their resume.

I don’t think NDSU needs a helping hand from the rankings...but honestly, I think they could drop another game, and I think JMU and Richmond could split their games.

If Weber State takes care of business, I think they are either a 1 or 2 seed. It wouldn’t hurt for lopsided wins, but Coach Hill is not one to run up scores. I think the Wildcats should run the table and be able to put up big number wins...but the teams in the Big Sky are tough games, so nothing can be take for granted.

Jacks don't do anything well and their passing defense is especially bad. I think Weber wins by at least three touchdowns, probably more.

I think you are right, I hope you're right, and I might even wager on it, but the game still has to happen.

Things often don't go as we predict. It all needs to be decided on the pitch. :coffee:

Time for the Wildcat offense to shine.
Yeah, I can feel it in my bones.

I'm hoping that we get off to a fast start and never look back. Even when the starters are pulled, I hope we keep playing hard. The twos and threes on our depth chart need to step to the plate and give it their best shot.

I also hope for a clean and safe game. :coffee:

I see the conference like this. Weber is a clear #1 with Davis second, EWU third. Idaho is fourth and then comes three teams that are a toss up as to which one is the worst. They are Idaho State, Southern Utah and NAU. Bringing up the caboose, and not even close, is Cal Poly. We have 4 games left against the really bad three plus the worst, Cal Poly. We should be undefeated at the end of the season. And if we win out with large margins, I think we will be ranked #1 in both polls and will be the top seed in the playoffs.

I always go back to my observations over the years and point out that even the worst teams get better as the season goes on. True in almost all team sports. That is why it is so important for the top teams to keep pushing to get better. Nobody wants to get caught taking their foot off the gas at this point in the season, or at any point for that matter. Poly looked good against UCD for about 10 minutes. They just couldn't sustain it. ISU snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against EWU. ISU had no business losing that game with a two TD lead and the clock running out. If a program starts thinking that they are supeior, they are likely to get their butts handed to them.

Right now, NAU deserves our respect and full attention. Comparative scores are nice to think about, but really have little bearing on the game that is about to happen. I hope we blow them out, but I fear that it could be closer than we would like. :coffee:

Remember what happened last time NAU came here. Yeah we ended up blowing them out but we struggled ifor most of the game until we wore them down. They were beating us at half time and led parts of the 3rd. Granted they dont have their star qb anymore but any given Saturday. We just need to dominate on both sides. I want to see more pressure by the defensive line and I want our offense to move the ball consistently.

I’m excited for this one. It looks like they haven’t been able to establish a run game or stop the run very well. Typically, that’s a recipe for disaster coming into Stewart Stadium. Can’t take anything for granted with how sloppy our offense looked vs Davis though . Really hoping to see a step forward form Bronson and for the offensive line to pave the way for 200+ yards rushing.

Defensively we’ve had a lot of guys in and out of the lineup so I’m not totally sure what to expect.

Two great opening drives by Johnson, but he is taking way too many sacks and he is lucky to not have fumbled yet.

Looks like another battle to the final whistle.
