The NAU Mens cross country team just move to the #1 ranking nationally after defeating then #1 Colorado this past weekend. This is the fist time that an NAU team has been ranked #1 in any sport nationally. Next weekend NAU will attempt to win it's first national title. It will be a very difficult feat as there are 5 really great teams which could beat each other on any given day. Those teams are...

Oklahoma State -defending national champ
Oregon
BYU
Colorado
and
NAU

Win or not, NAU cross country is putting the Lumberjacks on the national stage. Congrats to coach Heins for making NAU a national powerhouse the past 5 years

Good luck Jacks...

With your altitude I would think that you can recuit some pretty serious runners...
I know people go up there just to train...

Man, do I miss running up there. It just isn't the same running down here in the desert.

This is monumental. My little old alma mater on the hill isn't so little. The Lumberjacks are competing with the big dogs (Colorado, Oklahoma State, Oregon).

Go Jacks!

They ended up as runner up. That sucks because they had a shot at giving NAU it's first NCAA National Championship in any sport. It looked like they had it at the end, but Colorado just had too much depth. You know you have a good team when you end up 2nd in the nation and somehow feel disappointed. I'm so proud of the NAU guys for this accomplishment.

They lose theri #3 runner and also their 5th to graduation, but the rest are coming back next year. I know they will be ready to battle for another top 4 finish come next year's National Champs. So proud to be a Lumberjack today :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
