The NAU soccer team was picked first by the Big Sky Conference coaches in the 2011 preseason poll. NAU collected 43 points, one point more than Sacramento State's 42, to slightly top the Hornets as the preseason favorite. Both the Lumberjacks and the Hornets received three first-place votes in the poll. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Last season, the Lumberjacks finished the regular season with at 6-0-1 conference record. As the regular season conference champion, they hosted the Big Sky Championship for the first time. However, they fell short of their third consecutive conference championship at the hands of Sacramento State, which defeated NAU 1-0 in the title game.

NAU soccer is one of the more successful programs in the conference. Coach Luciano is doing a great job. With the new stadium, these girls will be even more motivated to win more championships. Wish I could be in Flag to watch a few games in the new facilities.

Hey, King. Long time no talk. Welcome back. I had planned to catch NAU soccer's match vs. ASU in Tempe this Friday night but a trip to Tucson to see an old friend and catch a Pacific northwest band was too good to pass up. Will do my best to check out NAU soccer up in Flagstaff at some point this fall. New pics of the soccer facility look top notch. All my years in Flagstaff and I had exactly zero friends even remotely interested in soccer. Sad because they've turned out to be consistently competitive. Hope the new facility brings out local fans as youth league/high school soccer has a good following in Flag.
