Be interesting after last weeks supposed step forward (Montana) then step backward (Montana St) to see how the Wildcats do on the road against NAU & SUU. Just might be a couple of tell-tale games. Is it going to be :thumb: or  ??

Two easy wins! The easiest wins of the year in conference play! :thumb: :thumb:

I don't think either game will be a walk in the park for the Cats, but I do feel that Weber matches up better against these teams than they did against Montana State. No matter, as long as the Cats take care of the ball and get efficient looks at the bucket then I feel nobody can beat them, but they have to play as a team. If they play as individuals they lose. I know he isn't the greatest shooter, but I like Hayden Hunter playing the point more and more. Senglin is a really good player, but he isn't a point guard. He needs to become far more dangerous passing the ball and being more efficient on offense.

I know I have defended Jeremy, we're pretty spoiled. It will be tough for any point guard to meet our expectations after Dame. The best part about it though is Senglin is a sophomore and Hunter is a freshman. They both have talent. Jeremy is a better scorer and finishes pretty well at the rack. Hunter has made some spectacular passes and is getting more and more confident. There will be some dumb plays from both but I like where we are headed.

We have yet to win on the road this year -- only on a neutral court. That will end this weekend -- but will we get one, or two wins?

NAU is a huge game in my book. A road sweep would really be big for this team. Doesn't seem like teams are going to run with us at the Dee. I'm sure SUU will use the same slow down, physical recipe against us (and as I recall they were really a cheap shot team last year, but a couple of those kids graduated), but wonder what NAU might do -- run like Eastern and Idaho on their home court, or slow things down...

Both of these games are going to be hard fought. NAU is talented and has an impressive win at St Mary's. SUU has everyone back and has added some athletic players to augment what they had.

We could win both, but it won't be easy by any stretch of the imagination. I would be thrilled with a sweep and happy with a split.

We will see a press, maybe in both games. How we handle it could determine what we see for the rest of the season. My feeling is that we will handle it well. By the end of the game with Montana, we seemed to be more comfortable breaking the press down. Hunter seems to have a good handle on it.

When a team decides to press, there are four possible outcomes. Two positive and two negative. They can get a turnover, or change the rhythm of the other team, positive, or give up an easy score or foul, negative. If the attacking team achieves more of the later, the pressing team will stop pressing if they have a choice.

We just need to force them into fouling us or get easy buckets. It sounds simple and it really does not need to be too complex. We just need to keep an attacking mentality about it. We will be fine. :twocents:

Greetings, Wildcat fans. I wish I could drive up the mountain on Thursday for the NAU-WSU game but distance and time won't allow. It is on Fox Sports Pacific, if I am correct? NAU's coverage on Big Sky TV tends to be one of the better productions, as well.

NAU has been an interesting and erratic team this year. They've won games they probably shouldn't have (St Marys and, to a lesser extent, LMU), been close in games they weren't expected to (Mississippi) and been rolled in games many thought they had a chance in (Norfolk State and Hampton). Turnover prone to start the season but that has been cleaned up a bit recently. The Jacks started the season with quite a bit of depth but that has changed due to Miller transferring and Neely being ineligible. NAU is only playing an average of 8 per game in conference. This is fine as long as those 8 are producing or healthy but it leaves little room for error. NAU's defensive intensity has been where it should be this season but they have struggled putting up points. Upshur hasn't quite seemed to have gotten on track this season but I don't see it as being due to lack of effort. Shots that have fallen in the past just aren't dropping.

I get to see two games live this year (ISU and Sacramento State). Not as many as in the past but still better than zero. I was hoping to head your way to see the WSU-NAU game in Ogden later in the year but those plans have fallen to the wayside. I wasn't paying attention as that game falls on Valentines Day. My flying up to watch a basketball game that weekend would most surely result in my not having a girlfriend anymore.

I've been following your season from afar. It's hard for Rahe and his staff to live up to some of the Weber board fans' yearly expectations. You guys will be in the mix for a playoff bid at the end. I do think that teams like EWU, Idaho, Sacramento State look to be the strongest so far. Montana could potentially surprise as well. WSU and UNC in the mix too.

Best of luck, Wildcats.

PS - Southern Utah looked better than they have in the past. I don't think they are a pushover anymore. As many have complained, they will definitely punch other Big Sky teams in the mouth....even if they lose the game. They play hard.

The keys for Weber to win on Thursday are Bolomboy and Hill. Our front court has to dominate. Who is for seeing the "big" lineup start this week? Thankfully for the program and for our sanity, I am not the coach, but if I were, I would have the following starting lineup.

1. Hunter
2. Senglin
3. Gittens
4. Bolomboy
5. Hajek

In the games, I would use Hill, Richardson, Golden and Coston in that order of importance. Coston might not be getting a lot of mins, but the mins he gets he produces. Hill has been much maligned, but I thought he played great last week. He is definitely a lot stronger in the second half. He needs to be more productive in the first half.

Coston's production? Really? What are you seeing that I'm missing? I always seen him get manhandled!

Team looked better tonight. They still can improve on some things. Senglin looked more composed tonight, 5 assist to 1 turnover. Took us 6 games but we finally got that road win. Lets go into Cedar on Saturday and get another.

Solid team win tonight in Flagstaff. Lets make it two in Cedar on Saturday. Who is making the trip??

Tonight's biggest disappointments, other than the terrible reffing, to me, it seemed the refs were doing everything they could to help keep NAU in the game. The intentional at the end and the suspect 5 point play??? Yikes...anyway, Golden 1-8 6 points...that is a definite worry. We need to be getting a lot more from our starting 2. Loved Hill, but he also was 1-6, but he did give us 9 rebounds. I was worried when the Jacks went into a full-court. Ugh...I'm really starting to love the rivalry that is brewing between these two clubs. Very chippy game in flagstaff...

Sir Velo...what is the overall record for the Cats in Flag??? (catcat is a total wankor and the tour of california is absolutely idiotic to watch...it is basketball season.).

Not Sir Velo, but I got the answer right here!

Overall WSU is 73-27 against NAU going back to 1966.

-42-8 in Ogden

-28-19 in Flagstaff

-1-1 neutral site

After tonight, Wildcats have won six of their last nine games in Flagstaff

I'm driving down to Cedar Saturday, and driving back after the game.

If anyone wants a ride, let me know.

Note to the student section/band at NAU:
The chant "Weber's not a state" during free throws and in general was in vogue when Dutch was a teenager. Time to move on.

Was at the game in Flag, NAU had many times looked like they were not on the same page offensively, counrt not balanced, waiting around to see what happened. Good for the Cats.

I also like how Golden, Gittens and Senglin anticipated the passing lanes to the winfg and got some steals.

Now go win in Cedar City!!

Oh whoops! I was looking in the Media Guide and didn't pay attention to the fact that the list went onto the next page, so I was looking at eight games from 1994-2001 :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

I dont know what it is, but Weber always plays really well in Flagstaff, maybe it's the altitude and thin air :-D

I've only had a chance to watch a few Weber games so far this year and none in about a month. They looked much better last night than they did early in the season. Bolomboy was a beast last night! NAU had no answer for him. Bolomboy was much more timid in the early games I saw, so it was good to see him playing up to his ability. In the Big Sky, he should really dominate the interior most games. Senglin looked much more under control last night than early in the season and played great last night.

It still drives me crazy that Rahe teams can't break a press and panic when other teams throw a press at us!!! Weber was on the way to a 20 point win last night and then they threw a press at us, we had some turnovers resulting from the press and NAU got right back in the game. I just don't get this...

NAU does a great broadcast. They are always fair and were very complimentary of Weber State. They were talking about the DEC and raving over it as one of the best college basketball arenas in the country. The game was televised on Fox Sports in the Phoenix area. It's nice to get Weber some exposure in the area as we've been able to get some good recruits from AZ over the past few years. It was also fun to hear the announcers read emails from fans watching the game from all over the country. Lots of Wildcat fans emailing them. It was fun to hear them read an email sent from Kyle Tresnak who was watching the game in Spain.

Hopefully I can make it up to Flagstaff for the game next year!

WILDCAT, the greatest was the game in 2013. I was at the game along with a relatively large Wildcat fan base that day. We were down by 7 or 8 with only like 1:30 - 2:00 left in the game. We had a couple steals, Bamforth hit a couple huge 3's, hit a few foul shots. Tied the game at regulation and blew them out in OT. The Weber fans, all sitting right behind the Weber bench, were going crazy the last few minutes. It felt like we were louder than the NAU fans. I remember NAU called a TO and the team came back to the bench. We were all screaming "You guys got this!" and Bamforth sat down and looked back at us with a look of like "Wow, you guys are great/crazy!" That was a lot of fun!
