NAU junior Stephanie Kim shot 71-76 to tie for 55th in stroke play rounds and advance to match play at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship held at Rhode Island Country Club. Kim will play today in the first round of 64.

"It feels good," Kim said in a release. "I really wanted to make the cut. I had a solid round yesterday but it was harder out there today. I was not driving well or hitting the fairways today. I did not hit the greens as well today and it is really important to hit the greens on this course."

Kim shot a five-over-par 76 on Tuesday but advanced on the strength of her even-par 71 in the first round that included two bogeys and two birdies.

"I played the last 11 holes two-under-par yesterday after bogeying two holes early," Kim said.

"So I felt good about that and was happy with my round."

The Tempe native has had a successful summer on the amateur golf circuit, playing in two USGA events and advancing to match play in all three national events. Most recently, she shot 70-71 to finish in a tie for second at -3 in the stroke play portion of the 81st Women's TRANS National Amateur Championship in Sheridan, Wyo. She then beat Katie Michunovich of Montana State in the first round of match play before losing to Alex Stewart in the second round.
