You're still thinking Best chooses starters based on ability and not seniority. I get why. The thought that he or any coach would do that is just so stupid it's hard to conceive. I actually asked my co worker who played for Eastern today and he confirmed as much. He actually found it interesting that someone from outside the program noticed it.

I’d imagine there’d have been concern about his youth and the fact that the offensive plan was to be more of a read-option offense. When Schakel came against Sac State, he was a mess. They reconfigured the offense quickly and look far better in the new wide sets. Our receivers look about a thousand times more gifted than they did two weeks ago. You can see there is a lot more confidence from the rest of the team with Schakel throwing the ball than there was with Bell and Taylor.

Both Bell and Taylor are good enough to play, clearly both good athletes. But they aren’t anywhere near the QB that Schakel is.

If you could rewind, it would have been better to start Schakel and deploy Bell like Montana uses Wortham, make him sort of a split back / slot receiver type guy. Taylor can move to RB and swap into QB for wildcat short yardage situations. The one thing we really lack right now is a short yardage goal line offense. Taylor would have value for that.

This isn't the first time this had happened. Remember him starting Talkington over Visperas? Meanwhile, Visperas new team is probably going to get a top seed in the playoffs and Eastern might get to 6-6 on the season.

Man yall need to stop making excuses for Best and calling him out or this shit will continue to happen and this team will always be mid to bad. We might have two more wins if Schakel started game 1 and played like he is.

I remember you complaining about why aren't we using transfers from big FBS schools we get. Best prioritizing seniority over ability might be a big reason.
