Nelsen is Retiring…

We knew this was coming, now we’ll see if he falls on any swords for his successor by committing $$$ to athletics…

That is important, but more concerned but we don’t get some loon for a Pres that thinks we should dismantle athletics.

Agree, anti athletics loon is worst possible outcome. Nice of Nelsen to shoutout football in his announcement. I talked to him Saturday, I think he truly cares about Sac State sports, I’ll be watching closely in the coming months…

A little insider info...when my son walked across the stage at graduation last May, President Nelsen in addition to shaking his hand said "Let's win another Big Sky title this fall." I rather enjoyed hearing that!

Doubt he will enable any additional funding for athletics as a send off gift. He wants to leave known as a benevolent President who shoved the wokeness narrative down everyone's throat. Dont think he wants to leave having students upset with him from a fee. Gonzo didnt leave any Easter eggs on his way out.

It was nice that he embraced athletics and was a participant. That part will be missed.

My conspiracy theory is he is exiting stage left as football has taken off and he doesnt have the stamina to undertake a stadium funding campaign, or making good on arena funding.

He did say that they are going back to Texas and continuing work there, so not really retiring. Probably fed up with the crazy mental illness gripping California.

Lets just hope Taylor doesnt go chasing unicorns in Bazerkly and leaves too. Hopefully, Beau Baldwin gleened advise about not coaching there.

Honest question. What is the process for hiring a new President? Who makes that decision?

CSU Chancellor's office handles it. There's enough time between now and July for a search/interviews to be held and a hire made, although this decision was likely made well in advance of the public notification so the wheels could already be in motion. They could also punt and name someone as interim if need be.

The questions isn't if another wokenista is hired, the question is if it will be a wokenista in support of athletics.

Agreed that I don't think he gifts an athletics fee increase on his way out the door. He turns 71 this January, doubt he has the stamina to do much these days.

Dr. Nelsen is by far the best President this University has ever had and he was able to move the bar in every aspect during his seven years here. He continued to build off of the momentum started under Gonzo, and elevated the University to new heights in all aspects of campus life and community stature. The passion he and Jody brought while serving as President will be greatly missed.

I didn't agree with everything he did, and he is yet another President to fail to get an events center built, but he always returned emails/calls and the advancements and growth in capital improvements, academics, and athletics greatly outweigh the shortcomings. Whoever comes next will have big shoes to fill, but they will also inherit a University in great standing.

Thank you Dr. Nelsen. Sac State is #1, Stingers Up!

Good post.

Perez just left his interim role at SJSU to come back to Sacramento - he has to be the successor to Nelsen…

From what I hear, if Perez is the successor, that would be very good for athletics.

Agreed, I remember him talking about Sac State pride in athletics during one of my two commencements.

I agree, and hope he is the next President. Young too.
