New Cal Poly Message Board

SloStang, first of all congrats on the new board. I won't post anything but I'll probably drop in from time to time to check up on the latest SLO news. I'm not a fan of having all the sports in one massive area but whatever, my opinion is obviously meaningless with respect to what SLO fans do or think of their board. The site looks sharp and will most likely do well.

Second, I have to agree with my fellow posters about the MWC talk. I admit I laughed when I saw the headline but as you said, what else are fans to talk about. My opinion on the matter is that with the MWC virtually on the doorstep of BCS admittance, a move by the MWC to add FCS move ups would result in the conference getting laughed out of any BCS talk. Such a move would just not benefit the MWC in any way shape or form.

Third, a talk about a move to the WAC is completely feasible for Sac State, CP, and "the farm extension". Quite frankly it's either that or staying in the FCS. What happens if they all remain FCS is another topic.

Finally there is definitely a lot of cow on cow love on that new board. I don't understand the circle jerk you guys have going on with "the farm extension", but whatever floats your boats. I understand respecting an opponent and all that, but proclaiming to be tied at the hip with whatever moves each respective athletic department/school does is incomprehensible. Either way we (maybe just me) do appreciate your participation on this board as you have provided some very timely recruit info and other news regarding western FCS schools. :)
I think the talk about the MWC is absurd also. If you look, Musty keep trying to bring the thread back to reality about going even to the WAC for SLO. There are a lot of people on the new board not living in reality. Peter is the king of this.

As far as love for Davis, ever been to a Davis/Poly game. There is no love. There is plenty of dislike though. I think you can not like someone and still respect them. If the WAC does take on new members in a conference shuffle, they probably will be looking at Sac State, Davis and Poly like you say. MWC, not so much.

Sorry, I got a little pissy. This thread was just rubbing me the wrong way.

Me too, but it was fun wasnt it :D

MWC not at all. And I tend to rub people the wrong way, don't take it personal.

SA pretty much summed it up. Don't forget 3 conference wins only gets maybe a 6th place finish in the BSC...3 wins in the GWC lands you a conference championship and a spot on the couch to watch the playoffs along side the BSC teams with 3 conference wins.
In 2005 Cal Poly was 5-1 against the Big Sky with wins over Sac State, Montana State, Eeastern Washington, Idaho State and conference champ MONTANA. I think Cal Poly could compete in the Big Sky. My biggest wish is that the Big Sky would allow football only members and Cal Poly would join as one. I know it will never happen, but I would prefer that over moving up and going to the WAC.

CP definitely has proven they could compete in the BSC. Does CP consider being a full member in the BSC an option? (Assuming an invite would be given.) I figured/assumed the added travel expenses scare off that idea. If the BSC allowed football only members, I'd lobby for Sac State to do the same and move all else into the Big West.

Poly has been invited to join the Big Sky as a full member in the past and declined because of travel expenses for all other sports and the Big Sky did not offer a home for baseball and softball. I think it may have been short sighted on Cal Poly's part, but I am a football fan first and all other Cal Poly sports second so I may be a little biased.

Interesting. Think they regret that decision, and when was that invite offered? CP would have given Sac State a travel partner. Hornet baseball plays in the WAC and softball is in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference, both would have been attainable for CP.

Not sure the year, but it was quite a few years back. Possibly when Sac State joined. Cal Poly would have made a great travel partner for Sac State and the conference would of been at 9 members back then.

Those who love football like me regret it. There are those who do not love football probably wish that football was dropped and the money spent on football was reallocated to other sports. I would assume they probably do not regret it. I do not know if Cal Poly could have made the leap back then without dropping sports.

sloStang-thanks for your updates on recruiting. You seem to be grounded and a generally nice person, but in reading your board and some of the posters on it, it got my blood boiling for some reason. Yes, you had success under Ellerson, but before him the Mustangs were an after thought, I'm interested to see what Walsh does.

What gets me rankled is that davis and to some extent Poly posters believing they are attending the best school in the world. I don't live in California anymore so I am not bombared by the holier than thou attitude everyday. But there are many schools much better than davis and CP, I live 15 miles within three of them, so it gets old reading how great a fully funded state college is the panacia of education.

Yes, all three FCS schools are the best in some fields and by in large the publications who rank them are looking at stats in their ivory towers. Why is it that some Poly posters think they are on par with davis? And why do some (most) davis people think their shit doesn't smell.

Sac State has awesome programs and the best in some fields, I just don't understand what perceived superiority CP has over Sac? You have high admission standards because you are impacted and because you are located on the coast of California. But in the end you are a CSU and have funding and admittance criteria similar to Sac State. And our football programs are basically split 50-50 in the series rivalry. How many Big West conference championships does Cal Poly have over the past four years? I know Sac State has over 20 Big Sky conference championships during that time period.

Checked the board out, it's almost as bad as eGriz! All hail the mighty Mustangs, they are the best, they do no wrong... You know, the same delusional mentality that most Griz ans have . I like Sac Buzz because the posters seem to be grounded, unlike other boards, especially team specific ones.

I really enjoyed their thread about which FBS conference they'll be moving to once the moratorium is over, the WAC or the MWC :|. Real interesting stuff :| . They talk about it as if it's a sure thing, as if there is no question.

As someone mentioned previously, what's with their love affair with the manure pile? I just don't get it.

I will not be going back there, I stopped looking at eGriz for the same reasons, they are delusional.

While I haven't seen the new Mustang board, I think you're basing your comparison on a faulty premise. eGriz is NOT AGS/Dave Coulson. While there may be a FEW "Griz are God" types over there, EVERYONE has a few of those. By no means are ALL eGrizzers that way. If you'd actually paid attention for a couple of years prior to most of the coaching staff bailing for UNLV, you'd have seen that they were whining about their OC as much if not more than Hornet fans whining about Bruce Pielstick. I've never seen an eGrizzer go as far as Coulson does in touting Appy over even the most overwhelming evidence otherwise. If the Griz look like they're going to lose, they'll tell you. There are even some over there who think the Griz will lose when the overwhelming evidence says they'll win. Of course, that may change a bit with Phenicie out of town. But PLEASE don't go overboard in your characterization of the board as a whole. There are a few @-holes over there (I could name a few, but won't), but by no means is everyone (or even most) like that. Their biggest problem in their homering is that SOME won't admit the existence of sports other than football, and bash other schools' fans over the head with football performance when the other school dominates the Sky in other sports. But even THAT attitude doesn't reflect everyone there.

Chris has done us a huge favor in providing us space on his board, and it would be good not to stretch the truth about something that would reflect on him even a little bit. eGriz was where it all started, and it's still a great place to talk sports of all kinds.

Maybe we should move the board to a 'friendly' environment and not held hostage by opinions of our rival? Plus, the board was down all weekend.

That’s a terrible idea, and Chris and his crew do an amazing job maintaining all the sites they run. The site was down over the weekend due to some server upgrades. This site is by no means held hostage by anyone. Calm down GCM. I hear AGS is back up so If you want to participate in a board that has a super controlling hosts and mods feel free to participate on their board as well.

I was wondering what was up. I knew Chris was planning some upgrades, but I wasn't sure when. I was also afraid it was my system acting up, although the UOP board came up fine. It didn't last too long, though. (Chris' work is always fast.)

Thanks for the update, SD!
