New coach??????????

How about a couple of sleeper candidates and thinking outside the box?

Jimmy Shaw-- the great recruiter at U of Washington
Steve Gosar---Just won the national jc at College of Southern Idaho

Young go getters.

The whole league will be much better next year and especially Portland State

Too bad there is not more crumbs floating around to keep fans interested. I can understand keeping it close to the vest but this total lock down mentality is boring.

Clawman, you make a great point, you do not have to spill all the beans, just throw out some broth. Most people who care, are really into it and in this information age, keep things going

What does the Eastern job pay?

There are some pretty good coaches in the GNAC, namely at both Alaska schools, Western Washington and Central and how about the Whitworth coach has been mentioned. I left out Looney cause he has already been mentioned.

The Big Sky has to get better in basketball, to do so, it needs some better teams at Eastern, Idaho State and Sac State to say the least.

Thank you

Were any on campus interviews done during the football hire? nwhoops44 glad you mentioned Looney. I have heard he is interested. Not sure what that means. I hope we hear something soon.

I still think the new guy must be someone who is involved in either the NIT or NCAA tourneys' thus the announcement is withheld until that team is eliminated.

Hironaka?

There is one candidate right in the backyard, who would do a terrific job, Hayford at Whitworth and another person who no one mentions is Eric Bridgeland at Whitman.

As a matter of fact Bridgeland is probably one of the top five basketball coaches on the West Coast. Before anyone laughs, think about what he has done at Whitman, think about what he did as interim coach at Pepperdine, they are still kicking themselves for not hiring him and going back to Asbury and he has major D-1 recruiting success.

Thinking outside the box is what it takes to develop a D-1 program nowadays. Just look at what University of Portland did with Eric Reveno, pretty good.

Just my opinion but we need to look at and hire a D1 assistants and not a D3 Head Coach. Assistants such as Giacoletti, Hironaka, and Travis DeCurie are all PAC-10 assistant coaches that would be great hires. Go Eagles!!!

Eagle1, respectfully, Bridgeland is a D-1 coach at a D-3 school, no one in basketball outworks him and he has D-1 experience, it gets tiring in basketball the same old recycling is done all the time and the failure rate is high.

EWU, needs a hungry, aggressive person who can really recruit, check him out, Bridgeland can do that. Winners are winners, no matter what the level.

Keep up the great dialogue, thank you

It should be Ryan Looney from SPU. Been a successful head coach in the NW. He is from Spokane and we lost to SPU this year. Giacoletti was a D2 head coach before EWU. Seems like a good blue print to follow.

Ron the Wise Eagle was only slightly exaggerating when he stated that if we lost one loyal fan we would be losing half our fan base. I strongly believe getting fans back was an important factor in not bringing Earlywine back and will be important in choosing our next coach. Vic, we want to add fans, not lose fan #1.

Clawman:

He is pretty good, isn't he. The job he has done there is terrific.

The only case I can remember is Speedy Morris at LaSalle, boy that dates me, but he made a terrific transition.

I don't follow basketball as much, but whoever our new coach is, he better get more done than either Burned or Earlyexit. :ohno:

Also, welcome to the board nwhoops44 and kycardad. :thumb:

If I was a betting man, I would put my money on these three coaches, from what my contacts are saying, but things are fluid the coaching business.
Central Washington
Seattle Pacific
Whitworth

All great coaches in their own right and no the Northwest and obviously know how to recruit, but might have to bring on someone who does or has experience.

This is total speculation but that is what these boards are for.

I noticed the other day that Spokane Community College is looking for a head coach with no announcement as to why Clint Hull is no longer coaching there. Could he already be the new coach at Eastern?
